Yesterday while heading to an event in Queens, I heard a 10-75, quickly followed by a 2nd alarm be transmitted by Battalion 52 to Queens Fire Dispatch. Quickly changing my route, I arrived there in 15 minutes. Listening closely, I could tell this was a very active fire, but I didn’t yet have a visual on it. What I witnessed, was one of the most terrifying jobs I have been too, but yet another example of the bravery and support each Member has for each other. Mayday after mayday was given with an immediate rush of other Members’s, FDNY Rescue Medics, and EMS. 17 Firefighters and 2 EMS personnel were injured during the operation. 1 particular moment of a Member being removed from a 2nd floor window and taken down via portable ladders is an visualization that I will certainly not forget anytime soon. My thoughts are with those who sustained injuries and hope your recovery if a fast one. If any Member’s need anything, please never hesitate to reach out.

Currently in Flushing, Queens, a 5th alarm fire is underway at a private dwelling which has extended to the 2 & 4 exposures. Due to downed power lines, a tower ladder in front of the building has become electrically charged. Multiple maydays have been transmitted as well as a 10-66 for a seriously injured Member. The operation is currently ongoing.

Tonight at roughly 10:30pm in Castle Hill, Bronx, a 2nd alarm was transmitted for heavy fire in a 2.5 story private dwelling. The blaze spread to 2 cars parked in a lot adjacent to home, as well as slight extension to the house of the exposure 4 (right side).

Today, a few minutes before noon in the Mount Eden neighborhood of The Bronx, Battalion 17 transmitted a 10-75 for fire on the 4th floor of a 6 story apartment building. With heavy fire and a lot of clutter in the apartment, a 2nd alarm was given. At some point a mayday was transmitted and FDNY EMS Rescue Medics (XR3) immediately jumped into action. The fire would reach a 3rd alarm for extra company’s as relief since there was a lot of overhauling to be done. Red Cross was on scene assisting with residents and providing Gatorade/Water to the Member’s who were exiting the building. A total of 2 firefighters sustained non life threatening injuries, and 30 or so residents were displaced, who will be assisted by the Red Cross.

Just after 7am this morning in Midtown, Manhattan, a 3rd alarm 10-76 (fire in a commercial building) occured, originating in the restaurant Papillon. The fire was in the duct work system that extended up the 43 story building. On the 2nd floor there was a gas fed fire flare up that Members had to extinguish. Many companies from around the 5 boroughs were called in for relief as this was an extended operation.

This morning just before 8am in Kingsbridge Heights, Bronx, dispatchers received a call for a mattress fire. Quickly thereafter, a second source reported fire in the address next door. When first due companies E48 & L56 arrived, they were met with heavy fire in the basement and blowing out of the window, extending to the house on the exposure 4 side (right side). The fire would reach a 4th alarm as the fire rapidly spread throughout both structures, and the need for additional resources due to the heatwave currently going on in NYC. During the operation, 2 Members suffered serious but non life threatening injuries, and 3 sustained minor injuries.

Thank you to the NYSAFC for allowing me to come document your annual training at The Rock aka FDNY Fire Academy. It was great getting to meet so many Firefighters from throughout New York State who serve their local communities.

The New York State Association of Fire Chiefs is a non profit organization that was organized in 1904 with the focus on serving the leaders and future leaders through hands on training, and classroom education.

This afternoon in Borough Park, Brooklyn, a 2nd alarm was transmitted for fire in the walls and ceiling of a private dwelling. Due to the heat of today, multiple extra trucks were called in to assist with what sounded like an extensive over haul process.
