With the Freedom Tower standing tall in the background, it makes me think deeply about the freedom some Members face due to 9/11 related illnesses. Without knowing the consequences, brave Men and Women rushed to the scene and to the events that followed putting their own lives in danger to save others. 25 years later, many who rushed in that day and the days following to work at Ground Zero continue to suffer due to illnesses caused by their time spent at the pile. The number of those whom have passed away from their illnesses has well surpassed the 343 Members taken from us that day, and those numbers only continue to rise.

25 years later, I will never forget where I was.

To some this may look like any old Manhattan brownstone steps, to me it holds a much different feeling. This is exactly where I was on September 11th, 2001. 8 years old, in 1st grade, myself and every student in our class, innocent and too young to be told or have a grasp what was going on. I remember teachers frantic and unaware of what to do. Many students parents worked downtown.
We were first taken on a fire drill I believe and this is where I sat, it was then determined we would go to the playground in Riverside Park until the school determined a plan during this completely unexpected disaster scenario. Distinctively, I remember the ash on myself and in the playground. When I went home, I remember the ash and dust that was scattered across our windowsills. Other than that, I don’t remember much from that day or the days following. My next memory connected to 9/11 was the news being on that my Dad was watching and seeing green tracer or something of that nature being fire Baghdad as the US made its way into the city.

On Monday night, Ladder 27’s senior man Matt Zimpfer, worked his last tour of an outstanding 24 year career. Over the past year and change of hanging out at 46/27 I have learned so much from Matt’s about fighting fires and any other random question I had but most importantly I took a lot of knowledge from how stand up of a human he is. Before I left that night, Matt said I appreciate you as he normally did, but I’ve said it before to him, it doesn’t amount to the amount that I appreciate him. Day in and day out, continuously making me feel apart of and welcome. Thank you Matt for everything.

Tonight at approximately 9:45pm just off W Burnside Ave & Jerome Ave in the Bronx, a 2nd alarm was transmitted in quick succession from the initial 10-75. The fire was in a barber shop which was located on a row of single story “tax payer” building types. First arriving companies went right to work and contained the fire preventing the spread of the fire. FDNY EMS units were requested forthwith for a civilian with severe burns.

This was an incredibly busy day for the borough of The Bronx as this was the 3rd multiple alarm fire to take place.

Fantastic day yesterday for the 2026 Battle Of The Badges FDNY Bravest Baseball vs. NYPD

Prior to the game, the Mets played and won against the Padres.

As a photographer and someone who loves looking at photos from previous generations of the FDNY, I’m here for the yellow tanks.

This week FDNY started a field test of 2 SCBA candidates for future Department use, the Draeger Air Boss and the MSA G-1. Only a select few companies in The Bronx and Queens will be operating using these systems with extensive evaluations to follow before a decision is made down the line.
