I am very excited to be sharing an art exhibit this next month with Sally Posner at the Main Street Artists gallery at 436 West Main Street in Quincy.

Our family has had a picture of the Summit School District building that Sally painted hanging in our living room for years. My mom bought this picture many years ago and it has been the centerpiece of our living room. I look forward to sharing my landscape and nature photography alongside Sally’s beautiful artwork.

Come by for the opening Friday November 1st from 5 to 7 pm and enjoy some wine and hors d’oeuvres while you peruse the art from local artists.

I was walking along the road in the countryside one day in late autumn and I noticed a couple of horses in a pasture. I wanted to get a shot of them but they were having nothing to do with it and kept moving off out of range. The black horse, which intrigued me most, I later found out was a Black Fell Pony which is a breed of reliable agile horses who are good jumpers. They are a versatile working breed of mountain and moorland pony from Northwestern England. Historically, they were favored by the Vikings as pack horses and later in the 20th Century they were used by Postal Service riders for mail delivery. There are tales told of the long distances covered at great speeds by these ponies. I loved the look of this horse as he had a mysterious look about him, but he seemed to be purposely avoiding my best efforts to get a picture of him. Finally, he moved into a copse of trees as if to avoid me. I set up my telephoto lens and was able to capture this shot of him through the trees. I love the piercing look he gave me portraying his independent soul.

Every spring the water from the rain and snow flows down off the mountains in the High Sierras into the high mountain valleys. American Valley is situated like the bottom of a bowl with mountains all around, so the valley fields turn into large ponds. One crisp early spring morning I was out photographing and came across this pond which was perfectly still creating an immaculate mirror of the surrounding mountains. I crept close to the pond taking care not to get bogged down in the mud and was able to capture the pristine morning vista in all its glory.
