Understanding White Balance – Get Your Colors Right
Ever take a photo that looks too blue or orange? That’s white balance messing with you.
What is White Balance?
It tells your camera what “neutral” white looks like, based on lighting conditions.
Too Cool?
Happens under shade or cloudy skies
Fix it with “Cloudy” or “Shade” WB settings
Too Warm?
Happens with tungsten or indoor lamps
Use “Tungsten” or “Incandescent” settings
Main WB Modes to Try:
Auto WB (AWB) – good for general use
Daylight – accurate in sunlight
Cloudy – warms up cool scenes
Tungsten – cools down warm indoor light
Custom – for full control
Pro Tip: If you shoot RAW, you can adjust WB later. If you shoot JPEG, get it right in-camera.
Try This Today:
Shoot the same subject in sunlight, shade, and under indoor light. Compare how WB affects color tone.
