I can LOVE a photo and still not let it anywhere near my portfolio. 😂

Because I’m not trying to show you every good photo I’ve ever taken.

I’m looking at each gallery AND my portfolio as a whole and asking…
does this add something?
does it feel distinctly like me?
do I want someone hiring me to create MORE of this?

I’m intentional about what makes the cut because my portfolio is doing a lot of talking before I ever get an inquiry.

Back to school with 4 boys is NOT the season for me to be making life harder than it needs to be. 😂

I’m a big fan of the tiny systems that save us five minutes, one argument, or me having to ask “WHERE ARE YOUR SHOES?!” for the 47th time.

These are a few things currently saving us during back to school season:

✨a weekly check-in with my husband where we chat uninterrupted about what’s coming up on our calendars - travel, soccer games, golf tournaments, birthday parties, etc.

✨CHORES - ya girl is delegating. ✌️

✨NOT signing up for things at school that don’t serve our family well. I’m not on the PTA. I’m not room parent. + I have no regrets about this.

✨Getting take out once a week. If we have a busy night with a lot on our plates, that’s our take out night. It’s worth the $$ to save our sanity.

✨Packing lunches the night before.

✨Letting my kids where what they want to school. I don’t have time to argue with them tbh, and they’re figuring out their own style in the process. 💁‍♂️

If we’re being honest, I cut about 9 perfectly “good” photos from this final gallery.

There wasn’t anything WRONG with them, they just weren’t adding anything the gallery needed.

And those little cuts made the final work feel more cohesive, intentional, and like something I was really freaking proud to deliver.

I think we get so focused on curating our portfolios that we forget the same intentionality can start wayyy before that.

Create work you love, be picky about what represents it, and put your strongest work FORWARD.
