Good Night Wild Ones!

Ms. Pinnacles crossed my path briefly today from several years gone by—as that stout little gelding Tugboat, behind her, changed worlds awhile ago.

Finding her sass and pride in that stride, her haughty and enthusiastic look, just begging me to share these two with you! Uplift your spirits as this did for me.

She appeared on my screen between noodling a new idea involving wood—barn wood.

What history did you create today?

There’s a tiny community not far from us—pop 174.

Yesterday the tavern hosted a 250th Celebration of America.

We heard there were going to be fireworks and literally at the last minute scooped up our neighbors and headed that way.

We witnessed the most phenomenal display of fireworks I have ever seen! Almost 30 minutes!

Blown away!

Surrounded by the very core of America—cornfields, grain bins, ball field and community—all walks of humans.

Grateful — for my country roots!

Not sure about you guys but...I only got a smidge written of what I wanted to write today, a smidge of what I am trying to word to share with you...so....check back on Monday!

I guess I was working on history today, now that I think about it.

Part of that history are the seven equids who call this little slice of earth home and one of those equids, Ms. Pinnacles, all because of that wild stallion, Blaze!

Hope your day was amazing!

Pinnacles and I might hit the creek to beat the heat! 🤣. Relive this moment from a few years ago!

Good Night Wild Ones!

I pay tribute to that wild stallion, Ranger, from Theodore Roosevelt National Park who left this world way too young and before he could leave his mark.

That handsome 2013 son of Clinker, and grandson of Gray Ghost on his dam's side, Wh***ey, was a a looker for sure and we would most often find him haunting the southern tier of the park with bachelor's like Roosevelt in tow.

The day of this image, in August of 2018, Ranger and Roosevelt were pestering Gray Ghost. It was hot, terribly hot that August, and Gray Ghost had acquired Gary's harem that year. Ranger's tenacity over the next days eventually wore down Gray Ghost and Ranger claimed the harem as his own.

We all know the rest of that story as Gray Ghost changed worlds not long after.

They are all dearly missed.

Enjoy the long weekend friends of the wilds! So grateful for each of you!

If you're interested this is available framed.

Hahaaa…checking water at noon for the horses, I found an almost drowned juvenile female sparrow, in Pinnacles water bucket.

I brought her in the studio to recover…

🤣🤣🤣

Let’s just say…she’s found a spot NOT outside! 🤣

Who seeks solace and peace from the wild things?

Oh how I long to sit
in the prairie grass
and feel the wind

witness the quiet
purpose of their
wild lives

One by one
two by two
they move

free as the birds
who share their
world

free as the sun
the clouds
the land

without them
we have
no past

Grateful for each of you who are here with me and sit with the wilds when you can, through these images taken in Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Have a beautiful night in your part of the world!

Reading all of the great tributes to Wendell Berry yesterday, actually brought me out of my creative stupor for a brief moment.

Wendell, this is for you and no words ring truer for an ailing soul, than finding peace with the wild things.

Although this isn't the complete version of your penned words, these are the words that I seek for solace.

Thank you, thank you for sharing your life with us. I hope someday to meet you in that other place.

Godspeed!
