Good morning! I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday weekend. Yesterday was the unofficial last day of summer, but the beginning of locals' summer. I started the day at Bombay Hook and ended the day at Assateague Island with my mom. It'll be nice today and a little warmer; have a great one!

Happy National Hummingbird Day!

Celebrated on the first Saturday of September, National Hummingbird Day falls right around the peak of fall hummingbird migration in the Northern Hemisphere — making it the perfect time to appreciate one of my absolute favorite birds.
These tiny but mighty travelers are more than beautiful visitors to our gardens. Hummingbirds are important pollinators and play a valuable role in the ecosystems they call home.

It’s hard not to be amazed by them — their incredible speed, brilliant colors, feisty personalities, and ability to hover almost effortlessly. I could sit and watch them for hours, and photographing them is always a challenge I enjoy.
As many begin their remarkable journey south for the winter, today is also a reminder of the importance of protecting the habitats and native plants they depend on along the way.

Good morning and happy Saturday! I caught up with Jack Seabright and his ladies, enjoying a little time by the water. With the flies still making themselves known, hanging out near the water offered them a bit of relief. Be safe and have a great one!

🦅 National Wildlife Day — In Memory of Steve Irwin 🐴

Today, September 4, is National Wildlife Day, a day that carries an especially meaningful connection to one of the greatest champions wildlife has ever had — Steve Irwin.

Twenty years ago today, the world lost Steve, but his passion for wildlife, conservation, and inspiring people to care about the creatures we share this planet with continues to live on.

As a wildlife photographer, some of my favorite moments happen quietly — watching a wild horse walk along the shoreline, catching the gaze of a fox, seeing a bird take flight, or simply being fortunate enough to witness an animal living completely wild and free.

In Steve’s memory, I’m sharing some of my favorite wildlife photographs I’ve captured over the years. Each one represents a moment I was privileged to witness and a reminder of why our wildlife and wild places are so worth protecting.

Steve once said, “My job, my mission, the reason I’ve been put onto this planet, is to save wildlife.”

What an incredible legacy to leave behind. ❤️

Here’s to the wild ones — may we always appreciate them, respect them, photograph them from a safe distance, and do everything we can to make sure they remain wild for generations to come.

In memory of Steve Irwin — February 22, 1962 – September 4, 2006. 🐊❤️

Good morning and happy Friday! As summer slowly begins to give way to fall, our Great Egrets are getting ready for the seasonal changes ahead. Many will soon leave our Delmarva marshes and wetlands, heading south in search of warmer wintering grounds.

For now, we still get to enjoy the sight of these beautiful white birds wading through the shallows, patiently fishing and fueling up for the journey ahead.

Migration is one of nature’s quiet reminders that the seasons are always moving forward. Before long, these elegant visitors will disappear from many of our local waterways, making every encounter with them right now feel just a little more special. Have a great one!

Good morning! With all the sadness we’ve felt at the island lately, it’s nice to have a little bright spot to celebrate.

On July 31, Giggles gave birth to a beautiful little c**t, and I finally got the chance to see him the other day. And what a first meeting it was! He was in the ocean with his family, full of personality and already proving to be quite the spunky little guy.

There’s something special about seeing a new generation of Assateague’s wild horses beginning their story. I can’t wait to watch this little guy grow up, find his place in the herd, and see what adventures are ahead for him.

Welcome to the wild, little one. You’re a much-needed reason to smile.
