Hello! I’ve taken a step back from photography lately, as I’ve been working towards being featured in galleries across the world.

If you’re in the San Diego area between October 7-9, I’d love for you to swing by Sparks Gallery to see this photo on their walls.

I have some incredibly big news to share with everyone!

If you’ve been following my page for a bit, you might remember that I’ve been submitting some of photos into competitions.

Earlier this week, I received an email saying this photo, titled “Serene Winter Morning”👇was selected to be PRINTED and displayed at the The Coningsby Gallery in London, England in late May!

I, regretfully, won’t be able to make the trip to see it in person. But, if you happen to be in the London area between the 26th and 28th of May, stop on by and see it for yourself.

This is possibly one of the proudest moments of my photography career thus far!

I’ve traveled to Yosemite each winter for three years now. Guess you can now call it a tradition.
Obviously, Yosemite winters can be incredibly unpredictable, which just adds to the expierence. On my last morning, I woke up to a much needed few inches of snow at my campsite.

Seeing Half Dome during a winter storm has been on my bucket list for years now. I was able to see it with an old friend, West, and made some new ones too!

Ever since I started my photography journey, one of my goals was to be featured in galleries so I could continue to share my passion for the beauty we have on this earth, and show people how I see this planet of ours. Selling my prints was never the main goal. It’s just an added benefit that helps me continue to finance this passion of mine.

Well, this year, I’ve managed to be digitally featured in five galleries so far - spanning from Chicago, to the Philippines, Cyprus, Budapest and Berlin. It’s not yet officially announced, but I will likely also be featured in the Shutterbug Magazine later this year.

I cannot even begin to express how grateful I am for each and every one of you who have continued to follow me along my journey.

Sometimes, I will visit the exact same location many times to capture different seasons, weather, and vibes. I’ve shot this pier several times, and each time, I look to capture something different than the last. I will often have an idea of an image in my mind of what I want to create, and this particular photograph is one that I attempted to get several times. When I look at this image, I love how I can feel the crisp air on my face. I love how I can hear the silence that I experienced when capturing this. I love the beauty that Lake Tahoe always provides. I also love that I proposed to my wife exactly where I set my camera to get this shot.

I knew capturing this photo would be a long shot. For about a week or so in February, the sun will set on Horsetail Falls and make the water glow as if it was on fire. If clouds block the sun at all, or if the stream isn’t strong enough, nothing will happen.

In 2021, everything panned out in my favor, and the crowd watching in the meadow below erupted in cheers. It was an incredible experience, especially with how rough 2021 was for most people. Out of all of my photos, this is by far my favorite.

Hey there! A friend of mine recently asked me which photo of mine is my favorite. That’s a pretty hard question for me to answer. Sometimes, it’s more about the experience that I had while taking the photo, or the company I was with at the time. To start off this mini series, here is Misty Donner Lake.

The morning I took this photo, I nearly fell into the Donner Lake because of my constant shivering. The temperature was in the single digits, and my camera batteries were quickly losing power. Just the other day, I shipped a 20x30 print of this off to a friend of mine in Virginia, and she told me that this photo has very similar vibes to Ansel Adams. I don’t know of any better compliment than that!

If you have a few minutes, I'd love for you to take a look at some more of my portfolio found on my website: jdhiggins.com

Hi! It’s been a while since I’ve introduced myself here.

My name is JD Higgins, and I’m a native of Lake Tahoe, which is probably why I will find any excuse to get up to the Lake. The best part of being a landscape photographer is being able to share my images with friends and family and seeing my framed artwork hanging in their homes. To be honest, I get the chills when people choose my photography to be part of their home. It’s truly an honor.

Here’s a bit more about me:
I prefer sunrise over sunset - there’s no better way to start the day off than feeling the first rays of sunlight on your face.
I prefer winter over summer - finding beauty in a harsh climate makes it so much more beautiful.
The Aurora Borealis is the most beautiful thing I’ve even photographed - by a long shot.

Thanks for following along! I look forward to showing you some more of my photography, and hopefully shipping some out to ya!

There is a possibility of being able to see the Northern Lights down here in the Tahoe area tonight. I’ve only seen them once, in Iceland, about three of four years ago. Seeing the Northern Lights is out of this world. I can’t even begin to describe how magical it is.

I’m in the process of seeing if I can make it tonight. If you see them, let me know! I would love to hear about it!!!
