A pair of white tailed ptarmigan doing their best to hide in plain sight. The male, still with some of his winter plumage, blends in to the lichen covered rock while the females golden scales match the alpine grasses perfectly. I think it’s pretty cool to see natural camo in action

Our local park has a series of bronze sculptures and this one happens to be a favorite this belted kingfisher. I’ve seen this male come back here time and time again and I’ve never gotten a background I actually like until the other day.

I’m grateful for little bits of habitat just a short walk from my house.

I spend a ton of time on public land and have found so many special creatures out there. Every one of these portraits was taken at a local open space, BLM land, national forest or somewhere conserved for the public, like national parks.

I think access to these places is a right everyone should have so I’m here to celebrate them. Go check out an open space near you this weekend and advocate for more and more public natural areas!
