Here is another picture of the bay roan stallion with his lady. These two were always together on the range. They were both captured and removed from the range in Sept 2023. I am sure that if were allowed to stay on the range there would be cute little foal with them now. It would have been fun to see what their foal would have looked like. I believe that both horses were adopted in the Spring of 2024. Who knows, perhaps the adopter of the mare got a beautiful little foal as a surprise bonus.

Another one of the Stallions from the Black Mountain herd. This beautiful guy is a bay roan color. I was never really a fan of roan colored horses until I started photographing this herd. Now I'm a huge fan. There are bay roans and red roans in this herd and they are all beautiful. I particularly like the bay roans.

Here's another buckskin stallion from the Black Mountain range in Idaho. (range name Buck) He is a bit older and I have wondered if he could be Ben's Dad. He had a small family and had a brand new foal born Spring of 2023.

Late in the summer/Fall of 2022 Ben and his mare foaled this little guy. Here he is with Dad just months before they were all rounded up. The youngster in the last picture was his brother or sister born the year before in 2021. I love how Ben’s foals all seem to be a chocolate brown color.

This beautiful buckskin stallion (range name Ben) is also a favorite of mine. Pictured here is his main mare and his 2021 offspring. I always enjoyed seeing Ben on the range although he did a good job of keeping his little band out of the public eye. Ben and his family were rounded up in September 2023. Ben was released back to his home range in Spring 2024 but his family was not returned. He has since claimed a new palomino mare that shared the range with another stallion. I will be anxious to see their 2026 foal next Spring.

This Stallion has become one of my favorite stallions over the time I spent on the range. He and his band seemed to be around every time I went to photograph the horses. His range name is Blackjack
Blackjack was rounded up in September 2023 and re-released to a different range in the Spring of 2024.

When I first started taking pictures of the wild horses on the range, this stallion really caught my attention. He is big, strong and beautiful and really took control of his band. You can see from the picture how he is rounding up his band and controlling where he wanted them to go.

He was rounded up in Sept 2023 and released to a different more remote HMA in the Spring of 2024. I hope that some day I will see him again.

Over the next few days I'd like to highlight some of the Stallions from the Black Mountain Wild horse herd. It has been interesting to watch the stallions and their relationship with their band of Mares, their offspring, and the other stallions. There is actually a lot of cooperation between the stallions to make sure the mares and foals are protected. This particular stallion was part of a med size band that he shared with other stallions. He was rounded up in September 2023 and re-released on the range in the Spring of 2024. He is currently living wild and free.

Once again I have let a lot of time go by without posting any pictures. I have been working on several wild horse photos from my trips to the Black Mountain Wild horse HMA in Idaho. I hope to start posting pictures daily or every couple days so If you'd like to see wild horse photos check back here regularly.
