It ain't a perfect bathing bird shot!

But it will do until I get a better one!

Just wish I had a little more light to deal with, it was pretty dang dark, so the ISO is a bit jacked up. I'm also slinging a bit of fill flash at it with a speedlight, so the lightning is a bit un-natural. But who cares? It;s a Summer Tanager taking a bath yo!

What is he thinking?

Spider giving me the side eye!
This might be the coolest spider shot I've ever taken. One of the goals in wildlife photography is to try and capture the subject doing something that makes it look human.

What do you think is on his little arachnid mind?

Should I feel honored or insulted!?

I just had this image flagged on one of my stock photo sites as being AI!
I find this interesting as not only is the image not AI, it was taken alomst 20 years ago with my old dinosaur Nikon D70s. It's not even that crisp of an image. It is just interesting.
I guess I should be honored that AI used by the stock photo company to screen submissions thinks my photo is AI, but honestly it just kinda ticks me off. Now I have a strike on my account!

I have reached out to the customer service department and will let yall know how it turns out!

At long last!

For many years now, the Summer Tanager has been a nemesis bird. Yes, I had a few images of them, but they all looked like second hand dookie! But as of today, I at least I have some that look like grade A dookie!

I cannot describe my inner joy. I hope you all will give me a moment as I go share this occasion with my family and friends.

All of whom will just make fun of me for being a fat bird nerd.

They just don't understand,

it's a !@ #$% Summer Tanager!

Nice creamy backgrounds, without crushing your bank account!

I'll say it again! If you are looking for quality images and don't want to, or can't spend money on primo glass, then this is the lens for you! The "nifty fifty" 50mm F1.8 Prime lens reigns supreme in the realm of best "bang-for-the-buck* lenses. At well under $100 used, it is a steal!

Sure, it looks kinda goofy on a big nice DSLR, but the images are anything but goofy. Stopped down to F2 or F2.8, this lens flat works! Is the image quality as good as some of my upper tier glass? No it is not. I'm not one of those people that are going to lie to you and tell you that a $100 lens can do the same thing as a $2000 lens. It just ain't happening. But if you click on the images and look, I think you will see that they are pretty darn nice considering what equipment was used! In fact, all but the split light portrait (taken with a D810), were taken with older cameras that you can get for less than $100 now! So for $200, you could feasibly put together a combo that took these images.

Nothing wrong with buying used equipment either! I've been doing it for decades and have yet to really be burned!

If you want to learn more about the "nifty fifty" and other used lenses and cameras I recommend, check out the video linked in the first comment. I talk about putting together a multiple lens (4) camera kit that can get you quality results for around $500!
