This is what happens when your guests understand the assignment.

Sarah and Andrew entered through a wall of hands. Their first dance included a lift. Sarah shared a quieter moment with her dad.

Then the dance floor completely lost its s**t.

Different parts of a reception ask for different kinds of photographs. Some moments need space. Some need me right in the middle of the crowd. Some need clean light, while others deserve color, movement, and a little controlled chaos.

And then there’s that final photo.

Sparklers everywhere. Their people crowded around them. Sarah and Andrew in the middle of it all, kissing like nobody else was there.

That’s how you end a wedding gallery.

One wedding day. A hell of a lot of different energy.

Sarah walking toward the ceremony with her dad.

Andrew watching her arrive.

Both of them laughing during the vows.

Then that full body, arms up, holy s**t we’re married moment on the way back down the aisle.

Later, the light softened and we shifted gears. A quiet bridal portrait among the trees. Colorful gardens. Golden light. A kiss. And Andrew carrying Sarah because romantic portraits do not always have to be so damn serious.

That range is what I want a wedding gallery to hold.

The anticipation. The people. The laughter. The photographs that stop you for a second. And the ones that immediately bring back how the day actually felt.

This is why I watch the people around you.

While you exchange vows, an entire room is feeling the moment with you. A parent wiping away a tear, a friend holding their breath, a grandparent smiling from the front row—those reactions become part of your family history.

A volleyball on his shoulder. Then a tux jacket.

Andrew cleaned up pretty damn well.

He and Sarah met playing beach volleyball, so it makes perfect sense that their wedding day included a little time at the net.

For their portraits, I wanted to take that connection a step further. My idea: have their volleyball club pepper around them while they kissed. That first photo is what we came up with.

Then there’s Andrew’s side of the story. Sunglasses, a bow tie, a few sharp portraits, and friends who were absolutely not going to let him take himself too seriously.

That’s the mix I love photographing. Looking your best without leaving your personality at home.
