COUSINS, COURAGE, HOPE 🙏🏼

I’m grateful to say that I’ve been approved as a living liver donor for my first cousin Caroline! This means I’ve passed all of the medical and psychological evaluations, and the VCU Health Hume-Lee Transplant Center has cleared me to move forward.

This life-saving surgery is scheduled for FEBRUARY 10 unless a deceased donor becomes available via the United Network for Organ Sharing, UNOS. While Caroline and I are naturally a little nervous, we feel peaceful, prepared, and supported by the amazing medical team at VCU and by all of YOU.

Two-thirds (60%) of my liver will be transplanted to Caroline, and both our livers will regenerate over the coming weeks. This transplant will give her something that her illness has been steadily taking away: time, strength, and the chance to feel like herself again. It is a way to give her the best possible chance at a full, meaningful life… a chance she and everyone deserves.

I’m sharing this journey with hope, faith, and family at the center — to help educate and spread awareness about the power of being a Living Donor. Your prayers, love, and positive vibes mean so much as we move through this next chapter together. FAMILY is EVERYTHING, and I feel so blessed and honored to be able to help Caroline in this way.

Hard to believe the time has come! The man, the myth, the legend Papa D, our family’s Captain, the KING of comfort is sailing off into RETIREMENT seas!

32-years in the industry and I remember my very first and every “bring your daughter to work” day! From handing out donuts for tips, to singing on the corner of the SunTrust building, cafeteria lunch dates, holiday parties, scooter rides down the halls, company oyster roasts, from your cozy corner office, to Solitare computer games (and interrupting your meeting thinking I lost it all!).

You have dedicated your love, support, trust, and loyalty to your CLIENTS just as you have your FAMILY. I always cherished growing up that no matter how busy you were, with that snazzy CIA bluetooth speaker in your ear… you were always THERE for us… you never missed a milestone moment along the way!

SO incredibly proud of you… for all you’ve done and all you continue to do!!!

So! Tonight I did a thing! 🎶 It’s been a DREAM of mine to sing the night away up on stage… mission accomplished! 🖤 Story time… Hal Howren, talented mid-tempo rock singer-songwriter and musician, has performed for years and is also one of Ryan’s partners at Davenport & Co.

This past Spring, Ryan and I had a date night with Hal and his lovely lady Marcia… as we were sippin’ on Prickly Pear margaritas, I casually mentioned that we should sing together sometime. Ya know, with all my childhood piano singing with Dad, high school choir, and late-night karaoke experience! Never did I think soon after I’d actually be up ON STAGE with Hal singing some of my childhood favorites from James Taylor, to the Beatles, Allison Kraus, and good ole’ Shania Twain! We brought the house down with Wagon Wheel!!🎤

While I initially wanted this to be a hush-hush performance (not telling a sole of tonight’s plans so not to get myself MORE nervous!)… I was so very HAPPY to have my parents and some dear friends surprise show up to sing-along and cheer us on! Their support in the room was immeasurable.

Tonight is ALL thanks to my hubby, Ryan, for coordinating and encouraging me to actually DO IT! {I have a history of stage fright anxiety!!} Hal came over just THIS WEEK for 2 jam sessions to practice and hear how our voices blend… and TONIGHT, for the very first time, we went LIVE! I sang 9 sing-alongs and TWO solo songs… it was truly an unforgettable night.

THANK YOU HAL and Rare Olde Times for such an amazing experience. SO PROUD to muster the courage to get up there!! All my childhood dreams of being a STAR on stage came true tonight. Mayyyybe I’ll be back for a future OPEN MIC NIGHT — this time, a long overdue debut with my DAD. Watch out Taylor Swift… might be goin’ on TOUR!!! 🎤🎶🖤

10 YEARS! 🎉 Today marks TEN years of running my business as a mompreneur! 🖤

What once started as Denton Digitals then morphed into Allison Shumate Photography. Ten years of being a storyteller… serving clients, capturing their legacy of true, authentic genuine moments. Countless hours shooting, editing, behind the scenes business workflows, award recognition, and even international travel!

Ten years of becoming a master of my craft, providing a unique client experience. Ten years of my clients trusting me with their most precious family raw moments… maternity, births, newborns, monthly milestones, birthdays, graduations, engagements, weddings… oh, what an honor it’s been to capture such emotion, such JOY!

It’s not lost on me the honor and privilege it is to share in these moments with YOU. So, THANK YOU. Beyond grateful for the true friendships formed and for all this business has brought to my life. Cheers to 10-YEARS… the best is yet to come!!! 🥂🎉🫶🏻
