One of the best parts of being a photographer is being invited to experience some of the most precious and intimate moments in someone’s life. Sometimes this presents the opportunity to build a friendship that goes beyond the typical client/photographer relationship. I met Arzelia the day of her senior prom in high school after a teacher recommended my services for a photo session. She was bubbly and kind, surrounded by a sweet group of friends. A few weeks later I then got to take her senior photos. I later convinced her to be a princess with a company I worked for, and after some mild hesitation, she said yes. (What a beautiful princess she made!) Fast forward a few years and it’s time for her to graduate college. It’s been a sweet journey watching her grow into the person she’s become. Then Jon reached out to have me photograph his proposal to her. It felt like such an honor, I’ve never been happier to hide in a bush! She of course said YES! This led me to capturing their engagement and now their wedding.
Watching the two of them together has been such a joy. I’ve always loved is getting to follow along with all of their adventures and honestly, I’m a little jealous that he is a pilot because I just know those adventures are only going to keep growing bigger and bigger.
They’ve created a relationship that feels joyful, effortless, and deeply rooted in love. Jon took the time to learn his vows in Spanish, as well as his reception speech, and if that’s not the perfect example of how much love and respect he has for Arzelia, I do not know what is. He embraces her, and her family, with effort that doesn’t go unnoticed. Their wedding was unforgettable. The food was incredible, the reception was full of so much life and joy, and I am still dreaming about that cake. Every part of this day felt like the perfect reflection of them, warm, vibrant, and full of heart.
But really… I need more of that cake.
Congratulations to Mr & Mrs. Mattingly.
