HI FRIENDS. Just a quick HELLO to let everyone know that as of March, I moved back to Richmond! There have been a lot of big life changes this year and finding balance among the busy season hustle has been a unique challenge. Please have patience with gallery deliveries. For the most part, they are running on time, give or take a day or two. If you have questions about yours, please feel free to reach out and if I feel like your photos will be significantly late (like an extra week?) I'll notify you personally with a timeframe you can expect to find it in your email!

LOVE YOU ALL and as always, thank you for your support and for keeping me busy. 🫶🏻

I remember a long time ago when my career was young, I told someone, "I don't want to be a birthday party photographer" and wow have the times changed. At that point, I had just moved away from my 6 years at JCPenney portraits and I had a couple of terrible event experiences right in a row where I heavily undercharged, didn't ask the right questions and got taken advantage of. Both events happened to be birthday parties. I was frustrated and I wrote them off for a while thinking if that's how it was going to be, I'd do something else! But woops, I didn't have a clue what "something else" was. So I went every which way, saying yes to all manner of jobs and followed the whims of demand, all for the sake of money and gaining clients. I could go on for miles about why this was the wrong choice but instead I'll just say this:

At the end of the day, work is work. It can be taxing just like any job. But I knew that if I didn't start letting my own joy lead the way, I would never last. Demand and trends be damned, I HAD to do what sparked joy for ME. And now, years later, here I am photographing birthday parties and it's one of my favorite things to document! As a mom, birthday parties aren't just a celebration of your children getting older, they're a celebration of you and your own journey as parents. Growing older and wiser right alongside your kids.

And ya know, getting to chase a gaggle of littles around while they blow bubbles and play and run wild? There's nothing better. ❤️

These full circle moments can be so beautiful, don't you think?

It's not often that I run into parties like this one! Almost EVERYONE got on that dance floor and the dancing didn't stop until the grand exit was announced. One of my favorite receptions by far. 🙌

Part one of Emma and Ryan's gorgeous gorgeous wedding from last spring. This was such a great day. I loved how beautiful the church was, I loved the bright sunny weather, I loved how goofy and unserious the couple was. And the party is going to be a post all on its own. 🎉

Getting to photograph the wedding of a friend is one of the highest honors. This was so intimate and beautiful (and my first time working at the poe museum!) I was having such a nice time that I could have stayed all day (and almost accidentally did. lol)

Hello friends! If you aren't as chronically on Instagram as I am, you may have missed it: I'm now booking spring minis for Sunday April 26 at the beautiful Bryan Park Azalea Garden! (There will be a rain date reserved on Sunday May 17.) These sessions are 25 minutes, and are guaranteed to include zero stuffy posing. You also get a full digital album with lots of images (no stuffy limitations there either). Cost is $250 with a non-refundable $50 deposit due at booking. Grab a spot, they're going fast!

These are not your average spring minis! There's no need for any stuffy posing, running and playing is highly encouraged and in fact, the more chaotic the better! Be comfy, don't overthink it, let your kids go wild and have some fun!

Part one because this wedding cannot be contained in 20 slides, even with the collages. What a simply beautiful, joyous day with so many happy tears, I almost cried myself more than once. 🥹❤️

Sometimes there are weddings where everything lines up so perfectly, it feels like I nail every single shot and I even drive home extra carefully afterward as I transport that precious cargo. This was one of those weddings. Even the surprise rain shower mid-ceremony only added sparkle to an already beautiful day. I am so excited to work with this couple again this spring! 🌸

For me, slow season is a time for reflection. I've made it a major goal to update my website this month, which has meant sifting through all of my galleries from the last few years and taking on the near impossible task of narrowing down my favorites. And while my IG post queue is long, I wanted to butt in with a little love letter to second shooting.

I've written about this once before, but now those gigs are dwindling year over year as my calendar becomes flooded with my own wedding bookings. (Something I'm still a little shocked about, to tell you the truth.) So there's a fuzzy wash of nostalgia playing a role in how I view these images now.

Being a second shooter is how I learned to be a wedding photographer. It allowed for experimentation. It opened avenues for networking, which opened doors to better jobs and bigger gigs. It helped me nurture meaningful relationships with other industry professionals, and I've made so many friends along the way. It helped me hone my skills and find my artistic "voice."

But perhaps most importantly, it helped me learn the formula so I could eventually break it and find a path into the wedding industry on my own terms with joy fully intact. I love being able to jump into a wedding day with no plan and no shot list, to be able to embrace the chaos and the mess and the love in its natural state.

I have so many photographers to thank for trusting me, for believing in me and letting me run amok and be creative. And I hope I can be that person for others.
