๐จ Childrenโs Privacy & Image Sharing ๐จ
This is something Iโve spoken about before, and itโs something Iโve practiced for years as a photographer.
The safety, privacy, and well being of my clients will always come before social media, likes, or growing my business.
Recently, there has been a lot of discussion surrounding AI and the potential misuse of childrenโs images from a law that just recently passed in August. While technology continues to evolve, I believe photographers have a responsibility to be mindful of what they share publicly and to protect the trust families place in them.
For years, I have only shared images of children when parents or legal guardians are comfortable with it. I have also chosen not to share many sessions online at all, especially when families have privacy concerns or circumstances that require additional protection, such as foster care placements, adoptions, safety concerns, and other personal situations.
While recent discussions about AI have brought this issue back into the spotlight, this isnโt a reactionary decision for me. Itโs simply a reminder of a standard Iโve held for years: the people I photograph will always matter more than the content I can post.
Every family deserves the choice of whether their images are shared publicly, and that choice will always be respected.
Not every session I photograph ends up on Facebook, Instagram, or my website, and thatโs okay.
Will this cost me business? Maybe.
Do I care? Not if it means protecting the children and families who trust me.
This isnโt a new policy for me. Itโs something Iโve practiced for years and have made posts about before. Many of my clients can tell you there are sessions Iโve never shared publicly because protecting a childโs privacy was more important than having content to post.
I will continue respecting the wishes of parents and legal guardians when it comes to sharing their childrenโs images. Some sessions are never shared online, and some never will be.
As a photographer, I am entrusted with some of lifeโs most important moments. That trust means everything to me, and I will continue doing my part to protect the families who choose me to document their memories.
