My big 3 when they were just little people

Sometimes I wish I would have known her when she was in her young 20’s.
My grandmother was an amazing person.
The only girl with 5 brothers
Parents from the Ukraine, all of their children serving in the Navy.
My grandma was a Nurse in the Waves treating soldiers injuries- she saw so much
I think this photo was when she was at a training at a college in NY
The complete joy in her face.

I’ve been going through some old photos I got at my mom’s house.
This one spoke to me- this girl wasn’t married yet, didn’t have her son and daughter and then the son she lost.
She went on to be the matriarch of the family, hosting gatherings at the holidays, loving the trips to the ocean with family, and always loving her family with an unconditional love
The thread of her life was her family, woven into everything she did
She was strong, she had a strong faith and she was always ready to weather the next with a smile like this picture

We inherit more than just the photos
We inherit who they were, what they showed and taught us and how we carry them forward
I’m striving to carry all of the best of Nina Elena -
She was one of a kind, and we were so blessed to have her ❤️🤟🏻

Signs
Do you believe in signs?
I’ve always believed in signs from our loved ones

On my walk today I was talking to my grandmother
I was saying some prayers and asking her to give me a sign if she was listening
A little while later as I was walking back toward the Basin in the middle of the canal was this ball
There was no avoiding it in the middle of my path
No people around- I have no idea how it got there- it wasn’t there 15 minutes earlier

But this little wool dryer ball with the hand stitched cardinal with a lavender wing no less- filled me up with nostalgia, love and definitely feeling like I was being heard
And even if it’s total coincidence I’m going to have faith that it was meant for me to see
