The Academy outright fired, via Zoom, with no notice, 16 senior staff obliterating a wealth of film history and film preservation experience, expertise and collective history. And unapologetically deleted their decades-long email addresses and emails. AYKM?? Please sign the petition here:

I have not posted in a while but that is not to say we haven’t been busy! One of our latest projects is archiving a collection of 200+ letters written by James “Loren” Hastings, a Hospital Steward during the Civil War. After organizing, cataloging, databasing, scanning and re-housing, we are now to Phase III: Research and Transcription. It’s been a time travel, a history lesson, a collision with grammar and vocabulary from another time. Here are a few pictures and a sample of one letter page 4 that expresses Loren’s love for his wife, his child and his God. Ahhh… cursive, letter-writing and love letters a by-gone era. A client sent us a dried out, cracked, fragile, rolled chromogenic print from the 1970s. It is so deteriorated the emulsion is pulling away from the binder. Our client could not unroll the photograph without cause more damage. We’ve had it in our hydration chamber for several days and it is now ready for scanning and digital restoration!
