Would you rather have fewer large gifts or more smaller gifts? My stepmom asked me as we walked the aisle of Target together.

I must have been 9 years old at the time. I considered her question. What she was really asking me was whether I prefer quality or quantity.

Bigger gifts, I answered.

Quality. That’s always been my answer.

I’m the type of person who will splurge on a cashmere sweater because I know it will last.

I’ll buy the $90 Lululemon leggings because if they rip or tear, I know I can drop them off to be tailored.

I buy solid gold hoops because I know they’ll go with everything I wear and won’t turn my ears green.

The way I run my business is no different.

I book fewer weddings each year so that I can offer quality service to my clients. (The wedding photography equivalent of having fewer large gifts)

Which would you prefer? Fewer large gifts, or more small gifts?

Happy December ❄️

This month is always a busy one. We have multiple birthdays, Hannukah, Christmas, New Years…like so many, it adds up.

‘Celebration’ is the theme of this month.

But for many, myself included, the season can be stressful. Negotiating holiday schedules, who's house you'll be visiting on which days, finding the perfect gifts, sending out holiday cards, making cookies for cookie exchanges… it's a lot.

Not to mention with social media, the pressure to have a perfectly decorated home, beautifully wrapped gifts, and stunning 5-star meals & desserts can make it feel like your best just isn't enough.

If you're feeling the holiday stress, you're not alone. You can feel the warmth that comes with holidays AND the stress. As my friend Emi says; “There's room for both emotions”.

So if you're having a moment where you don't feel very holly or jolly, give yourself grace and maybe pour yourself a Christmas Cookie Martini🍸

“This sounds familiar, right?” Matt whispered to me as we sat beside each other, watching the opening comedy act. I nodded, confirming what we both suspected: we had heard this exact routine before.

Matt is a sales manager for a building supplies company, and every year, his company (along with others) sponsors a dinner for the Northeaster Lumber Retailers Association.

Last year, the dinner was hosted at a local comedy club and followed by a few comedy acts. This year, the association decided to host the dinner at the same comedy club.

The opening act was the exact same both years.

On our drive home, we talked about how odd it was that this comedian repeated his routine. Didn’t he get tired of it? Didn’t it start to feel old after a while? Why wouldn’t he want to try new material out? What about the customers who frequented the comedy club? Did they get tired of his act?

I can’t imagine running my business today exactly how I did a year ago.

I’ve learned so much, changed so much, and grown so much in a year.

In fact, I just enrolled in a bo***ir course with one of the most inspiring photographers I know.

Learning and growing is part of my creative process. I could never truly be creative if I was stagnant.
