I photographed one of the rarest birds in North America.
I recently set out to observe, or perhaps photograph, one of North America's rarest and most sought-after songbirds. This is the Kirtland's Warbler. Their demanding nesting grounds in the jack pine forest only, combined with overwintering in the Bahamas, make for a difficult life for this bird. A few pockets of birds can only be found in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Ontario. Hiking and exploring on foot for more than 14 miles in quest of this endangered species was both enjoyable and gratifying. There are only approximately 12 nesting pairs in Wisconsin, so this was a difficult job I set for myself. Hearing a male call in the woods from over 100 yards away was my first excitement. I heard one at least was my thoughts. The next day I would get my first visuals of this elusive bird. A fist pump to myself and a point to the heavens for the sighting and photographs I would get after that. What a fantastic experience to see this truly amazing and colorful creature that travels over over 1,700 miles to raise its young in Northern Wisconsin. Here are a few of my pictures to share with you. Please share and like this post to if you would like to see more content like this.
