What does a Chicago wedding photographer bring to a wedding day?

Apparently, entirely too many cameras.

Digital, 35mm film, flash, little cameras, backup cameras — probably a few things I forgot were hanging off me by the end of the night.

But none of it is really about collecting gear.

I love mixing different cameras and formats because they each remember a wedding a little differently.

Digital gives me the freedom to react quickly when something happens that nobody planned.

Film slows me down and gives photographs that imperfect, nostalgic feeling that already seems like a memory.

Flash can make a moment feel immediate and alive — almost like somebody pulled an old photograph out of a box twenty years later.

And sometimes the smallest, least impressive camera ends up making one of my favorite photographs of the entire day.

I’m not trying to make every part of a wedding look perfectly polished.

I want it to feel like it actually happened.

Raw emotion. Romantic stories. A little chaos. And, apparently, a lot of cameras.

Ashley & Andrew’s day at Williams Tree Farm was nothing short of amazing 🤍✨ From the sweetest ceremony filled with laughter and happy tears, to the most gorgeous golden-hour portraits, and a celebration that felt so full of love—every moment was unforgettable.

A Relaxed, Elegant Wedding at Rockford Country Club | Rockford Wedding Photographer

There’s something special about photographing weddings right here in Rockford—and Kevin and Christin’s day was a perfect example of why I love it so much.

Their celebration was the perfect mix of timeless and laid-back, starting with a calm morning at a beautiful Airbnb overlooking the Rock River—just down the road from the Embassy Suites Rockford, one of the city’s newest downtown wedding venues. From there, we made our way to Holy Family Catholic Church for a heartfelt ceremony that honored their roots and their faith. (Fun fact: both Kevin and Christin grew up in Rockford and went to Boylan High School—so this day felt like a full-circle moment.)

After the ceremony, we headed to Rockford Country Club, one of the most scenic and refined venues in the area. The updated interiors and lush, perfectly manicured grounds made for a stunning backdrop during portraits—and their private first look down the isle behind the venue was one of the most intimate moments of the day.

Rockford Country Club offers a little bit of everything—elegant interiors, wide open views of the river and golf course, and the kind of golden hour light photographers dream of. It’s a true hidden gem for couples wanting something luxurious but down to earth. And Kevin and Christin fully leaned into that energy. Nothing was rushed. Everything felt calm and real.

As a wedding photographer based in Rockford who also works across Chicago and northern Illinois, these are the kinds of days I love documenting. Easygoing couples, beautiful local spots, and genuine emotion—that’s what it’s all about.

A Summer Wedding at Hidden Creek Estates That Had It All

Rachel and Robert's wedding day at Hidden Creek Estatesden Creek Estates was one of those rare days where everything just clicked. The weather was perfect, the energy was high, and the whole day flowed effortlessly from start to finish.

One of the biggest advantages of having a wedding at Hidden Creek Estates—especially during the summer—is how seamlessly everything can happen in one place. The spacious getting-ready areas, the beautiful outdoor ceremony space, and the inviting reception hall all work together to create a relaxed, grounded atmosphere. No travel time, no logistics to juggle—just a full day to be present, soak it all in, and celebrate.

And celebrate they did. Their guests brought all the joy, all day long. From heartfelt speeches to wild dance floor moves, the energy never dipped. A 10-foot mecha robot made a surprise appearance (yes, you read that right), and when Rachel grabbed the CO2 cannon to hype up the crowd, the room went off.

I may or may not have stuck around a little longer than planned—just couldn’t resist grabbing a few extra frames once the party hit full speed. This was one of those weddings that reminds you exactly why we do this.

Abby and Neil’s story starts the way all great fantasy tales do—with a brave rescue, an unexpected bond, and a little bit of magic. From their shared love of dogs (shoutout to Fauna!) to horror novels, gaming, and ren faire adventures, these two bring their own brand of dark academia romance to life.

Downtown Chicago gave us the perfect backdrop—intimate corners of Gilt Bar, glowing city lights along the Riverwalk—and it honestly felt like a scene straight out of the book they’re writing together. Can’t wait to tell the next chapter at Colvin House.
