Swipe to see what a FULL SUN, BACKLIT ceremony on the waterrrrrr COULD look like if your photographer doesn’t know off camera flash 🫡😮‍💨🔥

Ok, we all know how challenging even phone photos can be when your subject is completely backlit. It’s the same for cameras, if not even more challenging

I honestly … had a mini panic when I showed up a couple Sundays ago to celebrate and capture Holly and Silas and walked into see the deck where the ceremony would be was in full sun ☀️ it was an absolutely stunning spot along the shores of shilshole bay of the puget sound in Seattle. But, not a cloud in the sky and their 5:30pm summer ceremony was SURRRE to be a photographers lighting nightmare.

I was SO happy I’d brought my lights and set them off hidden to the sides for a little pop to bring them out or any shot from this angle would have either been super hazy, or would have had to completely blow out the water and mountains to get any sort of detail on the couple

I’m so happy and grateful for the skills and lessons learned along the way that allow me to think quick and adapt in new and challenging settings and venues. I walked away from this one feeling a deep sense of gratitude and excitement to edit.

On any inquiry, I ALWAYS tell my couples getting married outside ESPECIALLY in full sun to ask any other photographers they’re inquiring with if they’re experienced in harsh elements like sunny, windy beach days and see what they say. Even if you don’t go with me, be sure whoever you do choose isn’t just showcasing perfect situations 🫶

I know direct flash is all the rage rn and I love sprinkling a few of those in too, but I’m gonna say it. In my humble opinion … SIDE OFF CAMERA FLASH IS BETTERRRRRRRR 🗣️🗣️🗣️

“We’re awkward” is something about 85% of couples tell me lol.

And I get it. Even in today’s day and age, most of us still aren’t particularly comfortable in front of a camera. Suddenly there’s a person standing there asking you to “be natural” while you’re very aware that you are, in fact, being photographed 😂

But honestly, one of my absolute favorite parts of this job is getting past that initial awkwardness and bringing out the little pieces of your personalities that make you you.

And that doesn’t always mean big laughs, wild prompts, or running dramatically through a field together. Sometimes you’re a little more reserved. Maybe you’re quiet and affectionate, or goofy in a very subtle way, or you show how much you love each other through tiny gestures rather than grand ones.

That’s all completely okay.

My goal isn’t to turn you into “photogenic people.” It’s to create enough space for you to settle in, forget about the camera, and interact with each other in a way that actually feels like you.

Sometimes that looks like belly laughs and chaos. Sometimes it’s a forehead pressed against a shoulder, a little smirk, holding hands while you walk, or the way one of you looks at the other when you think nobody’s paying attention.

Subtlety can be just as beautiful as playfulness.

So if you’re worried that you’re “too awkward,” “too shy,” or just not the couple who wants to spend an hour being told to jump around and kiss dramatically… I promise you, there’s a version of your relationship that photographs beautifully, too.

You don’t have to perform for me. I’ll meet you where you are — and make photographs that actually feel like you. 🖤

I know I’ve been kind of absent on here, and that’s okay 🫶 I’ve been busy with another part time job, summer shoots and honestly social media is just one of those things that goes on the back burner for me when my energy is elsewhere. If my mind and heart aren’t in it, it feels inauthentic to post just to post, tbh

I’ll try to post some more of my recent shoots because they’ve all been amazing! I wish I could remember to share every single thing that’s popped in front of my camera

I’ve been busy, been enjoying summer and resetting for the upcoming busy season. Life is good 🫶

I started on a huge stint of travel starting this week and I’m pretty much booked every weekend through mid December 🫣 I also started getting a huge wave of 2027 inquiries, so please don’t hesitate to reach out about event coverage for next year. Here, far, near, anywhere!

I hope everyone else has been having an amazing summer, too and taken some time for themselves ☀️

The Santa Barbara courthouse IMMEDIATELY stole a piece of my heart. Hands down the most gorgeous courthouse I’ve been to yet. So many nooks and crannies and spots to take pics — I feel like these slides don’t even encompass half of its beauty. I want to make a whole other post about it tbh

There’s something about Santa Barbara that is so nostalgic and iconically Southern California without being LA or San Diego. (Also the airport is TOP TIER. I would 100000% fly into here over LAX any day 😆) It’s so chill, the mist and fog that rolls in is stunning and then next hour is perfectly sunny. I had such a blast exploring the town, the outlying spots and bluffs (scouted a TON of spots for any future couples!) and checking out local food spots and the iconic boardwalk and skate parks. I loved every second and can’t wait to go back.

On this one, Megan and tanner wanted a few more mountain shots but unfortunately it was just a bit too foggy that day at the peak of La Cumbre. But we got some gorgeous shots at some turnouts on the way up!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let one of my couples bring me back here because I would adore shooting this courthouse again! Reach out, I’d love to plan and show you how simple it is to get married here and have a stunning ceremony and pics without having to break the bank 😘✨

Emma & Aaron — some wedding days just feel so easy and carefree and I definitely felt like that with these two. Their families were incredible, their playlist was impeccable, the reception was a blast, every moment felt seamless and authentic with nothing forced and just all around a JOYFUL day.

This has also become one of my favorite venues in Fredericksburg 🫶 the grounds are gorgeous, the venues so well kept with great lighting, and so many nooks and crannies and SUCH a stunning open air chapel — WITH A BELL 🔔 😂 🫶La Bonne Vie Ranch

My girls Danielle, Corpus Christi Wedding Photographer and crystalclear_lenses joined me on this one for second shooting and video and we had a blast. I truly wish every single day was like this one

One of my favorite parts of Katelyn + Griffins day was when they read each others letters to the other before the ceremony.

Truly one of my favorite and most meaningful little rituals some of my couples choose to do. Also just gives a moment of peace, silence and intention for the rest of the day amongst some of the chaos

The travel is cool but it makes me appreciate my local events that much more 🤎 heritage park is definitely a local favorite and it had been entirely too long since I shot there!

I adored the thought and artistic detail Brittney + Jacob put into this. They designed and made their own invitation suites, Jacob even made the table arrangements 💐😛
