The air is starting to get that chill in the evening that warns you summer is ending soon and I have mixed feelings about it. I’ll definitely miss all of the beach sessions from this summer - I practically lived at Huntington Beach for a few weeks 😂 Hayley & Jacob were one of those awesome couples that make these summer evenings so special. Not to mention they weren’t afraid of anything - airborne acrobatics (more on that later), wet jeans, or an audience of high schoolers who clapped whenever they kissed. It was a good night.

It’s the little moments that add up, far more than the things. Odds are, you won’t remember the color of your napkins or what appetizer was served first. That’s not a slight towards other vendors - I highly doubt most people even remember my name years down the line, let alone the flatlay shots I stressed over. But clear as day, you’ll remember seeing a sibling after they’ve moved away, your grandparents helping the kids get ready, your best friend giving you a pre-ceremony pep talk. Be present for those moments and everything else will seem so much less pressing.

The word “authentic” gets thrown around a lot these days, especially in the wedding industry, and it drives me a little nuts. Dictionaries define it as “genuine” or “true to self”, but what does that mean for wedding photography? Technically a pure documentary-style would be the most genuine but that’s not really what most people want. On the other side of the spectrum are editorial & classic styles that aren’t always “real” but capture the feeling. Is one more authentic than the other? Or is the very nature of photography authentic because a moment is frozen as it occurs, posed or not. Who knows. And who has the right to call one form of art less authentic than another…

What do I think? My job is to shoot events as they occur. Sometimes, moments need a soft touch of guidance. Sometimes, imperfection makes the shot raw and perfect. Either way, authenticity comes from a place of ease so I just try to create that environment and whatever happens, happens. What do you think?

Who needs Italy anyways? We have over 400 wineries in Ohio with a ton right here in the Cleveland area, and we’re in the top 10 wine-producing states which is pretty crazy because Ohio and California don’t share too many top 10 lists. Point is, if you’ve always dreamed about getting married at a beautiful vineyard, you might not have to travel as far as you think. And going off of how absolutely beautiful Matt & Aimee’s wedding at was, I think they had it all figured out.

I’m a huge Pinterest fan. I have boards for literally everything and always ask for links if a bride has one for her wedding. It’s not about copying something shot for shot (though this was directly inspired by Taylor’s board), but about getting an idea of what people imagine for their own wedding. This is one of my favorite dress shots and it was totally unscripted. We had a moment of down time after getting ready and Aimee just happened to sit in a sun spot by a montserrat that was casting perfectly shaped shadows on her dress. And everyone knows that when it comes to plants, it’s hard to beat the montserrat for elegance. Cue me dropping my snack and sprinting over before a cloud passed by.

One of my favorite things about is that every corner and nook has something beautiful going on. It makes for a really dynamic venue with lots of places to explore and unique photo opportunities. Like the arcade or this metal statue - couldn’t tell you what it is, but it’s cool and the light was funky. What more do you need?

It’s been a little over a year now since Dafne & Dean had their courthouse elopement downtown and it’s still one of my favorite sessions. Everyone dreams about running away together but they actually did it, and it was as intimate and beautiful as you’d imagine.
