What do I bring to an on-site content shoot?
A little bit of everything. Cameras (obviously), lenses, light modifiers, backup batteries, snacks, and the occasional . Each brand calls for its own visual energy, so I pack with personality in mind. Sometimes that means bold backdrops, other times a mirror or vintage stool I found on the side of the road. The goal? Turn any space into a scene that screams your brand. It’s not just a shoot: it’s a full-on creative mission.

When you’re hiring a photographer for a space you’ve designed, built, or own, knowing the difference between Airbnb/vacation rental photography and architectural photography is essential, because they serve completely different purposes.

A vacation rental photographer is trained to make a space look inviting and bookable: wide angles, cozy staging, bright lighting, and fast edits designed to grab attention online. This works great for rentals, but it often flattens the nuance and intent of architectural design.

Architectural photographers, on the other hand, focus on documenting design with intention and precision. Wallpaper deserves more than a flat shot.
It’s not just decoration — it’s part of the architectural language of a space. When I photograph wallpaper, I treat it like I would any other design element: with intention, precision, and respect for how it interacts with the room around it.

I always start with clean, head-on shots to preserve the geometry of the pattern. This gives a true sense of how it was designed to sit on the wall. From there, I explore angles that show how the wallpaper moves how it wraps around corners, frames doorways, and balances with trim, lighting, or built-ins.

Texture is key. If the wallpaper is embossed, metallic, or grasscloth, I’ll light it from the side to bring out every ridge and fiber. Color accuracy is just as important, especially in spaces where tone was a deliberate design decision. I use natural light whenever possible, adjust white balance carefully, and include scale references like furniture or fixtures to tell the full visual story.

It’s not about photographing just the wallpaper. It’s about capturing how it exists in space and what that says about the design as a whole.
