Motherhood has a way of reminding us that not everything goes according to plan.
When we first met for her pregnancy announcement, she dreamed of welcoming her baby through a peaceful water birth at a birthing center. As the weeks passed, we documented each chapter of her journey—the anticipation, the excitement, the waiting.
At 40 weeks and 5 days, she was induced. She labored for more than 24 hours and spent 8 hours at 8cm dilated, giving everything she had. When her birth took an unexpected turn, she made the difficult and courageous decision to have a C-section.
Because only her husband and doula were allowed in the operating room, I wasn’t able to witness her baby’s first moments earthside. But I returned the very next morning to document their Fresh 48 session—those first quiet hours of getting to know the little person they’d waited so long to meet.
Birth doesn’t always unfold the way we imagine it will. But a changed plan doesn’t mean a failed birth.
Her story is still beautiful. Her strength is still undeniable.
And her journey into motherhood deserves to be remembered exactly as it happened.
From pregnancy announcement to maternity, labor, Fresh 48, and newborn photos—it’s been an honor documenting every chapter of this family’s story.
