He attended Mumford High School and as a student Green discovered his passion for art, which inspired his ingenious creative process. Even as a child the Detroit native’s wild curiosity was sparked in a city filled with trend setting artistic tradition that would long aspire him to be the brilliant artist he is today. Green would often attend art classes under the direction of respected art teache
r and mentor, Mr. As a student, Green always found it interesting that Hollier would give him assignments that allowed him to cultivate his own artistic goal which expanded his forms of artistic expression. Once in high school Green knew that he wanted to become an artist. Green went on to attend Western Michigan University after graduating from high school. During his college tenure Green explored several different subject areas many of which became too confining to his creative yearnings. As a result of these early college experiences he decided that his undergraduate studies would focus on subject areas that would allow for expression that was both abstract and concrete. Green decided to study art and art education and observing both areas encouraged his creativity. He graduated with a Bachelor in Fine Arts and later resumed his studies at Wayne State University pursuing a Master’s degree in Secondary Education, Special Education. Green has developed strong aspirations for becoming a practicing professional artist. His belief in thinking outside the box, partnered with his educational background has given him the raw talent and tools of a true artist. He has earnestly embarked on his journey by exploring concepts in painting and collage. The brilliant figurative art of Diego Rivera and timeless abstracts of Jackson Po***ck have greatly inspired Green’s formulation of his own personal expressive aesthetic. At one point in his artistic development Green thought it was customary to separate the abstract and the figurative. However, Green’s brilliance sought to combine the figurative concepts of his earlier works with the more abstract expressionist tendencies of his more recent experimentations. His decision to combine his two seemingly competitive ideologies was sparked by a conversation with artist Gilda Snowden, a world-renown artist who could identify with Green’s aesthetic struggles. Through Snowden’s wisdom and personal direction Green was able to elaborate into a world of art that only in his dreams he would imagine to create. Snowden was able to identify the images in Green’s portfolio that truly expressed the spirit, emotion and freedom that he had been trying to deliberately identify and channel for many years. Green has since learned to release his apprehension and formulate creative direction that ignores the standard popular visual trappings of the art world. Influenced by conversations with Snowden and other professional artists such as LaShun Beal, Senghor Reid and Shirley Woodson Reid, Green has a renewed sense of vigor and motivation whenever he picks up a paintbrush. During his artistic journey, Green has also expanded his talents into the music world exemplifying his art from canvas to sound. With Green’s music you can envision the colorful sounds that inspire his genius. “Music is like art, once you make it; it's out there for the world to see.” So, welcome to the astonishing world of Darnell Green.
