During a recent trip to Rockville Hills Regional Park I took a few minutes to watch the Acorn Woodpeckers as they stuffed acorns into the trees. This one tried fitting the acorn into the hole but found the hole wasn’t large enough for the acorn so it flew off to find a new place to store.

It’s great to go out looking for a particular bird and finding it. I’ve tried numerous times to find burrowing owls and yesterday it paid off. I visited the Emeryville Marina Park and found a lone Burrowing Owl perched on the rocks near the water. I spent at least half an hour watching and photographing the owl.

I took a trip to the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area to see what birds were out this morning. Unfortunately the area was covered in a heavy fog and really limited what I could see. I did find this snowy egret creeping through marsh looking for food. In the second photo if you look close it has a small fish, but the fish escaped.

The mallard just finished preening before giving itself a good rinse.
