We love a summer storm in this house 🏠
The day before Sydney + Harris’s July Montana wedding, we were all in shorts, tanks, and dresses, loaded with sunscreen, and big ‘ol badass flat brims. Sweating our way through the rehearsal and loving every second of it, it was a GORGEOUS Big sky summer day.
Fast forward to the next day, a very similar forecast was on the radar for the wedding. My second photographer and I were prepared for shade-seeking 101 for portraits after the ceremony, but! True mama nature style, she had a lil mid-day surprise for us :)
Clouds started rollin’ in pretty quick, and my first thought is, “how lovely! Even lighting everywhere, a dream.” Being a Californian to my core, I had to be reminded of the fact that unannounced storms roll in a liiitle different out here.. and by different, I mean FAST.
The awesome staff were clearing the outdoor ceremony chairs at record speeds, all while I’m bouncing around with the wedding party and family laughing and snapping photos. I finally get a little tap on the shoulder, ‘hey! You should probably wrap this up soon, this rain is coming any minute girlfriend.”
We all snapped to it, and took a timeout to return to our family sesh a little later, and the walk to the barn in between-times are some of my favorite little B-roll shots of the day :)
All blown away hats were recovered, and I was gifted with this great set of photos to remember our little windy summer storm friend that came to visit. And we LOVE her 🥰
Extra stormy details:
This sneaky weather changed our ENTIRE photo timeline for the remainder of the daylight, swapping events, running around to beat the sunset-engulfing clouds, using wind to our advantage, speed round family photos in between bride + Groom portraits, and wow it made me love this day more than ever I thought possible!
Man do I love a good timeline (lord knows, I am an over-planner by nature in my work life, ask lol)
But a great reminder? Change is the name of the game, baby! Meticulous plans can go out the window, and it’s a blast to reroute and let the day take you where it’s meant to be :)
