Take the photographs and memories,
not as an escape.
Good times past
come around again -
when the work is done.
Hold your loved ones close;
let them be your strength.

Just two hours until sunset.

This time, slow down at least enough to notice the way the light hits their fur.

If you so choose, you can whisper in their ear... whatever words you wish they could hear, tell them anyway.

Let them be too busy living to listen.

The most meaningful photographs are rarely planned. (When it comes to dogs, anyway.)

Pictured here is Ginty, the Jack Russel terrier, bounding through grass twice her height. Had she stayed still for a second longer, there would be no images of her curious, persistently upright tail. No images of unfiltered joy, or a dog using her agency in real-time.

This is what I mean when I tell you at the start of your session: Your dog doesn’t need to perform.

She doesn’t need to follow every prompt I suggest or request we make. She just needs our patience, needs us to allow her to “be.”

Trust that your authentic experiences are more worthy of art than any perfect pose.
And trust us to honor who you and your pet are… not who you think you should be.

I have never shared my personal life here. Today, that changes.

Four weeks ago today, my 6.5 year relationship ended and everything fell apart. Overnight, I was packing boxes, moving back to my parents' house, and trying to figure how to start over. Atlas, - teenage dog antics, big feelings, and all - was the only constant.

For the past 4 years, I have kept my personal life separate from Sweet Camellia Photography. I thought professionalism meant perfection, and that showing up for my clients meant hiding my own growing pains.

But I have come to realize that, by keeping my full self out of this business, I have been doing us both a disservice. And maybe you do need to know that the person behind the camera understands what it feels like when life doesn't go as planned. When you're trying to take care of your dog while struggling to take care of yourself. When your pet's wildest behaviors, the training gaps, seem to stick out like a sore thumb. When you're just trying to hold it all together.

I'm learning that showing up authentically matters more than showing up perfectly. For Atlas. For me. And for the work I do with you.

If this is you, too: you're not alone. Your dog doesn't need you to be perfect. They just need you to show up

So, I wrote about all of it: the breakup, the shame, the struggle of becoming the sole guardian to a teenage dog with separation anxiety, and what I'm learning from it all.

Your memories - your way.🐾

One of the questions I receive the most from my clients is: How can I get as many images as possible - truly, a LOT of images - without taking up too much space? How can we possibly use so many, besides just getting the digital files?

Enter our clients' favorite solution: the Story Album.

This is my favorite way to provide pet parents with all of their chosen images in a format that's beautiful, individual, *and* practical.

Choose the cover material and color that suits you - maybe a soft, neutral linen to suit your decor... or a soft, faux suede that matches your beloved's fur almost exactly. Remember a special date, their name, or even your whole family in custom embossed text... or a favorite photograph of your pet (or, yes - even both).

We'll choose a place for it that it will be seen, felt, and picked up on a regular basis - or somewhere discrete, if grief requires that you take some time away from your memories first.

Every Story Album is tailor-made to suit you, your pet, and your home.

Let this post serve as your reminder to look back on that photo album on your shelf, or those old photographs on your phone.

And may this also be my reminder to photograph more of our clients' products during quality checks...
