A hungry shelter animal doesn't know why their bowl is empty tonight. They just know it is.

Front Street Animal Shelter - City of Sacramento food pantry has run out. They feed hundreds of dogs and cats every week, and this month, they came up short.

So we're doing something about it.

Donate a qualifying bag of pet food — 20 pounds or 12 cans for dogs, 15 pounds or about 24 cans for cats — and you'll get a complimentary flash session with your own dog or cat at our studio, a printed 5x7, and a feature on our page.

No pet, or don't want the photos? Donate anyway — we'll hand you a gift certificate to give to someone who does.

This runs through September, and we'll keep it going into October if Sacramento shows up the way we think it will.

She almost cancelled.

Her dog had been anxious at every vet visit, every groomer, every new space for years. She was convinced a portrait session would end in chaos — or worse, a dog too stressed to enjoy it.

So we slowed everything down. No posing. No rushing through setups. We let him sniff every corner of the studio, claim the window seat, decide when he was ready. Somewhere around the twenty-minute mark, he just... settled. Stretched out, looked right at the lens, and gave us exactly who he was.

That's the portrait hanging in her living room now. Not a performance. Just him.

The doors are closed before any dog comes off leash.

That's the first thing that happens. Before the lights, before the backdrop, before anyone says hello properly.

Then: no toys on the floor. Treats only after we've asked about allergies. The water bowl comes out after we're finished, not before — a dog that drinks first is a dog that needs to go out mid-session.

And you're the one who unclips the leash. Not us.

None of that is in the pictures. It's the reason the pictures work.
