Dance photos are so much more than the sum of their parts. 🩰✨
It’s years of a dancer’s hard work, layered with light, timing, and trust. This weekend I had the joy of working with ._ , and every single pose was its own little experiment: we shifted angles, reshaped light, adjusted timing, changed lighting ratios, and gave real-time feedback so we could sculpt exactly what her body was doing in space. For one movement, the light wrapped around her back to carve out shape; for another, it sliced across her legs to show form and power; for a jump, it caught just enough air to freeze that in-between.
What you see in the final image isn’t just a “pretty pose.” It’s collaboration. It’s hours of dedication. It’s the hard work in a passion. It’s a conversation between dancer, photographer, camera, and light, all working together to honor the hours she’s spent in the studio.
I’m planning to setup 1-2 hour sessions with dancers a few more times this year. Next up is a water shoot! DM if you’re interested.
