A lot of the work I got to capture over the past few years was by working with Katherine Elyse Media LLC. as a second photographer, or more often as a ghost photographer as I like to call it, often referred to as an associate photographer. That’s where another company hires someone to produce work in the same way they would to allow for the owner or company to facilitate their vision and brand style across multiple events. This allows many new photographers to grow, practice and expand while allowing the hiring photographer company growth and reliability amongst their clients. A good representation of a symbiotic relationship. Kate has always been an open, caring and supportive mentor, and I will always be grateful for the opportunities I have had to work with her.

Today we are honoring my wife’s mother at her California Celebration of Life, allowing those who knew her here to remember and celebrate her. I’m honored to have taken several photos of her in the years of knowing her, Risa was a beautiful and compassionate woman, filled with life and curiosity, always staying creative and pushing her kids to live their lives in ways that made them happy. Her husband Scott has gone above and beyond to facilitate all of events and ways we’ve been able to honor Risa’s life and impact she had on this world. I’m grateful for all the time we had, and only wish we could have laughed on into the years to come. May she rest in peace, please enjoy this photo I took of them at Sarah’s best friend’s wedding 4 years ago. (The woman to Sarah’s side was who babysat her when she was younger).

The effort that comes from wanting to make a surprise so big, so successful, so impactful is that of love and devotion. The joy to see the person you love so happy and the look of pure shock from the unexpected, runs the dopamine in ways that just can’t be described, but felt throughout. Having a pro who can come in with no knowledge of the couple, the place, the history but can still give you a fairytale story to share, that’s important. Make sure to hire one that adds to your joy and the surprise, and the effort will be noted.
