Hannah + Christian’s downtown Detroit engagement session started at the bar where they got engaged and ended at The Whitney, which made the whole evening feel so personal and thoughtfully put together. There’s a specific quality of light at Planterra Conservatory that I think about between weddings. The glass ceiling diffuses everything and softens it, spreads it evenly across the whole space. It’s the kind of light you spend hours chasing outdoors, and at Planterra it just exists, all day, regardless of the season. If you’re considering Planterra for your wedding, here’s what I’d tell you from behind the camera:
→ The botanical backdrop never needs styling. The venue does that work and the staff is incredible.
→ The ceremony space photographs beautifully at any time of day, but late afternoon is something else entirely.
→The VIP Suite for pre ceremony and getting ready portraits are some of the most intimate images from any Planterra wedding.

That’s one of the first things I tell every couple as we start our session. Even after hundreds of weddings, being on the other side of the camera can feel a little intimidating (yes, even for me).

My job is to help you feel at ease, confident, and fully yourselves. Through gentle movement prompts, watching how you naturally interact, and leaning into what feels authentic, I create space for your real relationship to shine.

When you’re comfortable, joyful and truly having fun together is where the magic happens. The laughs, the quiet moments, the little gestures that make your story uniquely yours appear when space is held.

I do not believe in stiff posing. Years as a physical therapist taught me how bodies move naturally—how tension lives in shoulders, how breath shapes posture, how subtle shifts create connection. I use that knowledge to guide couples in motion, not in place. A gentle walk. A turn into the light. A hand pulled closer. Motion creates calm. Calm creates honesty. And honesty creates images that come to life.

Excited to capture these two this fall and to head back to detroit tomorrow for another session with an amazing couple.
