Evening light has a way of slowing everything down.

As I wandered through Bay City State Park, this little fawn stepped into a patch of soft golden light and paused just long enough for a portrait. Those bright eyes, oversized ears, and the white spots that help it disappear into the grasses are reminders of how quickly these moments come and go.

For a few seconds, curiosity outweighed caution, and we shared a quiet moment before it slipped back into the marsh.

Nature’s youngest visitors have a way of making the world feel a little gentler.

Week 22: On The Ground
"Maxim in Sand"

Some kids build sandcastles. Others become part of the beach itself.

One minute he was running along the shoreline, the next he volunteered to be “buried forever” — sunglasses and all. The result? A tiny king of the dunes, perfectly content with sandy ears, warm sunshine, and the kind of laughter that only exists on carefree summer days.

Photos like this won’t make it into history books, but they become the moments families remember forever — sun-soaked, silly, and impossible not to smile about. ☀️🏖️

Lake Huron put on a show tonight from our campsite at Port Crescent State Park. The long exposure turned the water to silk while the sunset painted the horizon in soft blues, purples, and streaks of fire. One of those evenings where the lake and sky seemed to melt together and everything felt still for a moment. Grateful for campfires, shoreline sunsets, and nights like this along Michigan’s thumb.

“ Built to Shine ”
There’s something powerful about watching a city choose color.
Choose art.
Choose joy.

“Shine Bright Saginaw” feels bigger than paint on steel silos — it feels like a statement about who we are and who we’re becoming. These towering murals take pieces of industry and history and transform them into something alive, bold, and impossible to ignore.

For the people who’ve always called Saginaw home, it’s a a source of belonging. For visitors, it’s proof that creativity and community thrive here along the riverfront. And for anyone driving by on an ordinary day, it’s a sudden burst of color that says this city still believes in itself.

The sunlight breaking over the silos felt like the city itself refusing to fade quietly into the background.

Saginaw doesn’t just endure.
It shines bright.

I was watching the sky yesterday. I felt it coming. You know, when you can just tell the clouds are warming up, taking their places waiting for the sun to hit them just right.
My assignment, long exposure, leads me to water. I love the dreamy feel when you let a creek flow through your lens.
I was hoping for a pretty sky and God delivered. Truly.

Swan Creek slowed to a whisper tonight.

A 90-second exposure turned the water to glass and stretched the clouds into soft brushstrokes across the sky—colors bleeding from gold to fire to violet like the day wasn’t ready to let go. The trees stood still, silhouetted witnesses, while the bridge and lines quietly guided the eye through it all.

Sometimes you don’t chase the moment—you let it unfold, and just hold the shutter open long enough to feel it.
