Allison was born with a birth defect. As a result, she had to undergo genetic testing which revealed she has a partially deleted chromosome #14 - this causes low muscle tone and developmental delays. She had surgery to repair the defect at 5 months old. Allison began having seizures when she was 7 months, and while they were mostly controlled by medication, they continued until she was almost 3 years old. At age 2 1/2, she had spinal cord surgery to release a tethered cord. Add in a mix throughout the years of MRIs, hospitalizations, pneumonias, physical, occupational, speech therapies, etc. Allison will be 8 years old in a few weeks! She cannot stand up or walk by herself (but she tries real hard!) and is mostly non-verbal. That being said, she is a very happy girl who smiles a lot, likes kittens and baby dolls (oh, how she loves baby dolls!!), loves to look at books, is absolutely beautiful, and understands a whole lot more than you'd think!
Allison has been accepted into a 3-week long intensive therapy program this summer where she will be receiving 4 hours of physical therapy per day. The therapy will take place at the Now I Can Foundation in Provo, Utah. The goal of this therapy is to get her moving in the right direction with regards to standing/walking/balancing - a refresher from the last time we went and hopefully more! We have received a grant from the Now I Can Foundation that will cover 1/2 the cost of the therapy itself. Her parents are now raising money to fund their airline costs, lodging, car rental, and other travel related expenses.
Allison is one of my happiest clients and I just love her and her mom!!! If you want to help Allison and get some nice photos taken let’s set a date!
