I wish I could say I learned this at 20. Or 30. Or even 40.
But nope. Still learning it.
As a mom, I want my kids to know they don’t have to make themselves smaller, quieter, cooler, prettier or more “acceptable” just to make other people comfortable.
I want the seniors I photograph to know that too. You don’t have to look like the girl on your For You page. You don’t have to dress like everyone else. You don’t have to have your entire future figured out at 17 or 18. You get to be you.
And apparently, I need that reminder just as much as they do.
Because even at my age (see how I didn’t say it) 😂 I can still catch myself wondering what someone thinks of me. Did I say the wrong thing? Post the wrong thing? Charge too much? Do too much? Not do enough?
It’s exhausting.
So maybe this one is for all of us—the teenagers figuring out who they are, the moms trying to raise them to be brave enough to be themselves, and the moms who are realizing we’re still figuring out who we are too.
Someone will judge you. Someone else will be inspired by the exact same thing.
You cannot build your life around either one of them.
Do your thing. I’m working on doing mine, too. 🤍
