Among the other progress at the new hotel in City of Sartell is that the windows are going in. Makes it a bit trickier for me to fly inside the building. :-)

I passed the new Niron Magnetics site while driving there. If anyone knows a contact to potentially do drone work at their site could you drop me a note? Thanks.

I'm happy to be able to announce that another PBS documentary I did the video work for is getting a theater release this summer.

"We are the River: How the Mississippi Shaped Minnesota" directed by Peter Meyers will be debuted at the Luminary Arts Center in Minneapolis on June 18th at 7p. It will be on PBS in the fall.

When flying a drone over Minnesota fields I frequently come across various animals. Easy to spot with the thermal camera.

Two things that often surprise me are 1. How wet many fields are and 2. How many animals live and wander through the water. If it were me I think I'd head to dryer ground, but I suppose if that's where the food is....

This piece is airing tonight on TPT highlighting the musical history of the West Bank area of Minneapolis. Always my favorite folks to work with.

When we filmed this the DHS had just issued a rule that anyone flying a drone within 3000’ of any ICE activity was committing a federal crime - even if your drone was pointed the other way filming a PBS documentary. There was no notification of when or where this activity might be. Made filming a bit less relaxing than usual as ICE was very active at the time in Minneapolis.

There were three marches that fed into the No Kings Day gathering in St. Paul today. Here are a couple clips from the one that started at Harriet Island.

To say it was a bit windy would be an understatement. I had a couple times where a gust came through and the drone struggled a bit, but always a quick recovery.

Drone stuff - there was a TFR (Total Flight Restriction) over the event today. Way more paperwork and waivers than usual to be able to fly a drone legally. I'd bet I spent 10 hours at the computer to make this one work, and printed out (to show any officers that needed to see I was legal) came to 26 pages.

I have done the drone work on four larger projects that are being released this year. Fun to be able to share the first one!

Medicine Ball is a film directed by Leya Hale. It is an official selection at the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival. The showing time for the film in the festival is 2pm on Saturday April 18th at The Main Theater in Minneapolis.

If you have the chance to see this or any of the other films in the program it is a great way to support local filmmaking. If you miss this one it will be released nationally on PBS in the fall.

Medicine Ball was also selected to show at the Durango Independent Film Festival, the Spokane International Film Festival, and the Ely Film Festival. This past weekend it won the “Best Minnesota Film” at the Ely festival.

There were some ruff conditions when shooting this episode - minus 20F temps. But no thought was ever given to putting things on paws - the husky videographers and sound editors and producer wagged off any inner dialogue howls and mushed on to the filming.
