Ennui Captured

I’ve taken a little breather from my usual Ennui Captured posts lately, not stepping away, just shifting to something a bit more hands on.

I’ve been spending time with a wonderful group of ladies at the Free Methodist Church of St Francisville IL . Together we are crocheting lap blankets for the residents at Heritage Shelter Care. Slow stitches, shared stories, and the hope that each blanket brings a bit of comfort to someone who needs it.

These are a few of my current contributions. Colors, textures, and patterns that are not only cozy, but hopefully bring a sense of home and love. I will be back to my regular rhythm soon, but for now I am grateful for this small season of creation and fellowship.

All week, the quiet things have been doing their work.
The small moments that ask you to slow down
and notice what God is shaping in places most people never look.
There has been stillness, there has been softness,
there has been new growth rising from what was left behind.
And in all of it, there has been the steady reminder
that God is present in the smallest details,
faithful in the places that feel fragile,
patient in the beginnings that unfold one breath at a time.

As the week settles into Sabbath, that truth becomes invitation.
To rest in the assurance that the God
who tends the little things is tending the rest.
To trust that His faithfulness does not start
with the big moments but with the quiet ones.
May today be a gentle pause, a slow step,
a reminder that in the least of things,
He is already at work.

Morning settles softly,
and even in the smallest things
we can see the Creator’s handiwork.

The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.” — Nahum 1:3

This week showed us power in its rawest form,
lightning carving through the sky,
storms rising without warning,
the kind of chaos that makes us feel small.

But even there, His presence held.
Even in the noise, His plan remained.
The whirlwind was not empty,
and the storm was never without Him.

We do not always see the purpose
in the middle of the strike,
but His love carries us through
and His strength does the work
that we cannot do on our own.

As Sabbath invites us to rest in Him,
we lean on the One who moves in the storm,
who shelters us when the sky breaks,
and steadies us after it.

The storm hasn’t reached us yet,
but the air already knows.
Some weeks begin this way…
with a shift you feel long before it arrives.

All week the small things have spoken,
quiet moments offering their own testimony
in petals, in weathered walls, in the remnants of yesterday.
Now we come to the stones themselves,
still holding their place in the story God is telling.

Here, the forest hush feels like a kind of welcome,
a reminder that creation has never stopped praising.
Even the rocks keep their witness, steady and unhurried,
inviting us into a rest that lets our hearts listen.
Sabbath arrives, and even the stones seem ready to cry out to the Creator
