Hometown Productions evolved out of the experience and expertise originating from SJM Cablevision, which provided cable programming for St. Locally owned and family operated, SJM consisted of George and Nadine Cutright, and David and Martha Cutright, all of whom provided the ingenuity as well as the muscle behind the machines. They also created channels 9 and 4, providing local information to the
residents of these 2 communities. Channel 9 programming featured school and community activities, feature stories, and local news. It also often featured live programming from local businesses such as Dillon's, the high school gym, library, court house, First Baptist Church, city square, and The News studio on N. Many of these events were video taped on standard VHS, Super-Beta, and S-VHS. These formats were highly primitive compared to current video capabilities, and Hometown Productions is in the process of restoring many of these live broadcasts to be preserved for and enjoyed by generations to come. From 1989-1990 after the sale of SJM and the retirement of George and Nadine, David Cutright produced a local feature-story segment entitled the St. John Journal.
