The day began with a march dedicated to Adam Toledo, a 13-year-old boy who was shot and killed with his hands in the air by police in Chicago, Illinois.
 
The day ended with a candle light vigil at the location where Yadhira Romero Martinez, 19, lost her life two days prior.
 
A GoFundMe has been set up to help support the transport and burial of Yadhira’s remains in Mexico with her parents. If you would like to support, then a link can be found in .s.s bio.

One in six women are survivors of s*xual assault or s*x trafficking. All I have to say, especially to the men, but to everybody Is that help starts at home. Check your dad’s. Check your brothers. Check your Homies. Because all men are complicit in violence against women. Every single man. Even the ones here. So, like I said check your people. Help starts at home. This reminds me a lot of Vanessa Guillen. We had a lot of men come out here and say, ‘justice for Vanessa Guillen’, but they go home, they beat their wives, they’re mean to their mothers, their sisters, they catcall. So, check that s**t. During my visit to Kim Potters house, I encountered this scene: A man and woman having a confrontation over chalk on a sidewalk. Early I spoke with the women. She said she lived a few miles away and heard that Kim Potter lived in the neighborhood. She felt compelled to drive over and show her solidarity with the Wright family in the form of chalk on a sidewalk. The man is Kim’s neighbor. He saw the chalk and felt compelled to approach the women to explain to her that what she was doing was against their neighborhood bylaws. They proceeded into an unproductive and passive aggressive exchange of words that somehow, I found myself mediating. Me, black man, mediating an argument about black lives matter between two white people. It’s interesting to see white people argue about racism. Anyways, their conversation went nowhere. She went back to drawing on the sidewalk while Kim’s neighbor and I set down in his garage to have a conversation. We talked about the by aws and why they are in place. Looking around the neighborhood I didn’t see any political signage in anyone’s yard as per the bylaw. I understand why people in a quiet suburb don’t want public political statements made in their neighborhood.
To clarify: I don’t think BLM is a political statement but a lot of white people think it is for some reason and I am avoiding that tangent.
Growing up my grandad told me not to talk about politics or religion outside of the family. I understand why. It can lead to pointless arguments like the one I was just witnessing. But it could also lead to unique and perspective shifting conversation like the one Kim’s neighbor and I were to have. I pointed that out to him and he agreed: two leveled headed, reasonable people with differing viewing points can sit down and have a civil conversation. This isn’t new but has been lost somewhere in the past 4 years. We talked about that too and how extreme people have gotten on all sides of the political spectrum. We talked about where we go as a country from here. He talked a lot about normal. Getting back to normal. But we both saw that what was will no longer be. Was Justice served today ? Yes and No. Today we won a battle in the war for liberation.

Something caught my mind during the closing arguments. Mr. Swisher said that the Minneapolis PD wasn’t on trial and that Derek Chauvin was. That Chauvin didn’t follow protocol etc. We know thats bulls**t. Derek knew what he was doing and feared no consequence.

When will the Minneapolis Police Department be on trial? It took this, a community uniting to fight and work trough trauma, it took the commercialization of our pain by the media, it took people losing eyes to fu***ng rubber bullets for them to see one officer is guilty. One officer. What will it take for them all ? And by all don’t mean Tou, Lane, and Keuig. I’m mean them all.
