CityDeskStudio is a full service residential architecture firm serving the Twin Cities and beyond.

Founded in 2004, CityDeskStudio is led by partner Ben Awes, with team members Chris Bach, Perri Kinsman, Sophie Olund, Cyle King, and Olivia Solari. We believe that architecture must express who our clients are, and what they believe. The name CityDeskStudio expresses an interest we have in exploring the boundaries that architecture operates within - the larger boundless environment suggested by CITY and the intense focused craftsmanship of the object, the DESK. We believe that multiculturalism makes us strong, vibrant, and resilient. We believe in a built environment that welcomes everyone. We believe all human beings deserve to be treated with dignity and decency.

We stand in solidarity with our neighbors, colleagues, clients, and crews who continue to be targeted by federal sweeps and raids. We strike to make clear this is not acceptable.

What do the USS Bennington and this cozy Florida guest cottage have in common? The "Cocoon House" by Paul Rudolph and Ralph Twitchell incorporates saran-vinyl compounds sprayed onto flexible ceiling panels to allow for an open space with no interior bearing walls. This process, called "cocooning," was pioneered in WWII-era shipyards and served as the namesake for this iconic project.

Exploring this marvel was the perfect getaway from a Minnesota winter!

It's that time of year again! Join us on the AIA Minnesota Homes by Architects Tour to explore Crescendo, a thoughtfully designed home in St. Louis Park. This light-filled space embraces its serene creekside setting as well as supports age-in-place living. A connected yet distinct walkout apartment below the main level allows for a family to live together, yet separately.

Last Friday CITYDESKSTUDIO had a bit of a summer soiree-- at the Great Minnesota Get Together! Though it was a bit of a scorcher, we all had an amazing time trying the new foods, seeing amazing fine art, and enjoying all the weird and wonderful stuff the state fair has to offer. Here we are standing in an excavator that's almost the size of some of our projects.

One of the greatest harbingers of spring is the joyful pop of yellow from sprouting daffodils... and the fun accent at the entry of our Kingfisher home! Our clients weren't afraid to play with color when it came to their modern home, creating a playful façade in the midst of a wooded lot that harkens to the colorful tapestry of spring wildflowers.

With the Slip'n'Slide's warm and sun-filled sunroom, we doubt anyone would ever leave! It provides a welcome respite from winter's cold as well as the tide of Minnesota's unofficial state bird.

Our Flyway project is progressing wonderfully! Perched overlooking the Chippewa River, this house's angles follow the flight pattern of the birds soaring above and the expansive glass allows for stunning views of the valley below.
