// the days go by in a blur of who’s driving to practice, what are we having for dinner, did you pay that bill? i miss you, that’s not his favorite bedtime book anymore, can we freeze time, i just need to get through this day… someday we’ll ache for these regular, hard, busy, blurry days.

harvest table surrounded by the Washington mountains.

eating in the rain and not once seeing the smiles waver.

open mic to toast to the couple. shared stories, leaning into the emotions and memories. dreaming of the future and remembering those gone too soon.

no amount of hurry to be found. just breathing in the moments and the magic of the day.

// after the ceremony everyone took something to help bring to the reception. like they were all taking a piece of the union that was just made and taking ownership of their part of supporting and nurturing the marriage; bringing it into celebrating and fellowship. as a guest of a wedding, you are making a commitment just like the bride and groom. to be a safe place for a relationship that can’t make it without community.

Matthew and Olivia took maybe 5 minutes of actual wedding portraits, Olivia changed into her party dress, we cooled off in the river and then they were with their people the rest of the night. It was just the way it should be. Centered around people, not photo timeline 🫶🏻.

The Washington mountains.

Guests camping the entire weekend.

Getting ready to the Mama Mia soundtrack.

Passing the champagne bottle around because who packs glasses when you’re camping?

Walking to your ceremony in birks.

I’m not sure I’ve ever been to a wedding that so unapologetically and perfectly screamed who the couple was at their core. The entire day centered around community, celebration and comfort for everyone involved. Honestly Olivia got out of her dress immediately after the ceremony because she wanted to be comfy and it was the best thing ever.

I can’t believe I’m just getting to sharing this 2022 wedding. Who wants to see the insane family style farm to table dinner they had?

// things I hope you take with you and feel deep in your bones.

-this blur of days? You know the ones where you forget what day it is and that you haven’t taken a second to yourself in hmm when was the last time anyways? It’s building the most beautiful childhoods where mom and dad might be tired but these girls know without a shadow of a doubt they are treasured and loved. Just look at them.

- I hope you bottle up the magic of running down a dirt road belting out Defying Gravity. The Elphaba to your Glinda looking at you like you are the best of friends and you could conquer anything together. Because you are and you can.

- I hope that you’re still doing the family Elphaba and Glinda hand signal when you’re moving the girls into their first apartment or as you say goodbye to one as she embarks on her first solo adventure.

- I hope you remember the teamwork that it took in this season and how it made you miss each other but also made you stronger.

- I hope you know deep in your bones that you’re helping shape little humans that already make the world a better place and as they grow they will learn from their mom and dad how to fight for others and always stand up for voices that need to be heard.

Thank you for the honor of bearing witness to your family magic ✨

// things I want you to take with you and feel deep in your bones.

-you made it through the first year of keeping a human alive. That is a magnificent, hard earned and often isolating feat. You are both incredible.

-if I could tell you the most true and cliche thing I’ve learned over the past year or so it’s that the days are long but the weeks and months are so short… pretty soon you’ll see less and less of baby Weston and more glimpses of who he’s going to be as a little boy and even dare I say teenager with some of the looks he gives you. It will break your heart and make it soar all at once.

-you’re going to feel like you again… well, maybe not the you before you became a parent. But you’ll start to feel glimpses of that person amidst the glimmers of independent play and *hopefully* more restful nights.

- the two of you are home to this little boy. You can tell by the way he leans into you and looks for reassurance in a glance or finger grasp… or the giant smile that lights up his whole face when his whole world is in front of him.

-watching you say your vows to each other and be a part of capturing you living them out… wow what a privileged. Thank you for allowing me to bear witness to your magic in this way ✨

// things that I hope you take with you and feel deep in your bones.

The freedom that your kids feel to be completely themselves… clumsy cartwheels, wild dancing, belly laughs and all. The confidence that you are instilling into your babies is a gift and a reflection of you as an amazing mom and dad.

Your kids aren’t going to remember the outfits you picked out, but they are going to remember the safety they feel when they look over at mom for affirmation that the impromptu gymnastic routine was on point and receive warm encouragement and a hug in response.

They’re going to remember the way dad played and was never embarrassed to be silly with them and with mom… showing them that being “cool” means truly just loving life no matter how silly it looks.

I hope you soak in the way the two of you lean into each other, the way that for as long as I’ve been capturing you guys (7 years!), Dillon has looked at Megan like she is the best most beautiful human around. Your kids notice that too. That matters.

You’ve built a family that is clearly a home and a safe place for all of you. I’m so honored to bear witness to your magic ✨

// things that i hope you take with you and feel deep in your bones.

The way the two of you are nurturing a little girl who is so full of wonder, curiosity and bravery that I’m left wanting to be more like her every time I get to see all of you.

That laughter and play will always be magic. Magic in the way that it holds so much more wisdom than any of us ever realize.

I hope you always remember Clarke telling you intricate stories of diving into the pool (down to every last detail of closing her eyes and wiggling her toes on the diving board) and I hope you treasure that mom and dad are who she wants to trust all of her stories with.

I hope you feel in your bones that the way you treat others no matter how your day is going has a profound impact on others (me!). The way you share parenting wisdom and hold space for the hard parts of life and always remember to check in… both of you remembering my first Mother’s Day… leaves a lasting impact I can’t begin to put a value to.

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your lives in this way and to bear witness to your family magic ✨

My first sessions on our new property are hitting me deep in my feels because every Kinfolk of the day was of people who I have been capturing for some time. It meant a lot to me. So, I’m going to try to put into words what I felt during each session. It will be a series for these specific kinfolk, but who knows, maybe something like this will stick. Because I truly want you all to feel what I feel when I get to capture all of your magic 🫶🏻.
