I loved this view looking back at the city, capturing the divers against the buildings. This perspective really gives the images scale and you see just how high they really were.

5th & 400

A series of images from a Tuesday in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The location is roughly the same in all shots (5th Street & Central Ave) and so is the view (a 400 millimeter lens). Slower shutter speeds show motion with blur and fast shutter speeds freeze time. Same block - same lens - same day - five different stories.

Photographing artists (and their work) is something I absolutely love doing. Creating images that showcase the art in its best light is so important. Not only for marketing, or applying for shows, but for documentation. Many artists, like Kayla here from make such beautiful pieces of work that sell and go on to live in other peoples homes, yards, boats, wherever they may end up! Having these photos to reflect on the great work you’ve created is so valuable.

When working with three dimensional artwork, I always like to photograph the pieces two ways: with natural light and with flash. Same artwork. Two completely different moods. One set. Maximizing our time and our results.

Public Art! This was a project that took me all over the city and what I would call an “art scavenger hunt”. Photographing and updating the Public Art Archive for was a tremendous joy. I saw parts of the city I honestly had not seen, and discovered art and people that are beautiful inside and out (doors). See what I did there? 🙃

Most of our public spaces, buildings, and parks contain art held by the city that represents us, our history, and our culture. These images here are just a few from the collection of over 91 pieces! Be sure to take note next time you’re out and about. Art is all around us.
