ickup. We know every nook and cranny of St. Simons Island, Sea Island, and Jekyll Island! Our team of four photographers can accommodate your schedule and make you look great. We have been in business on St. Simons Island for more than 35 years, keeping our clients happy, with the longevity to prove it. Meet the Team: Here are our stories. JOHN TOTH opened The Darkroom in 1976. Working as a professional photographer straight out of high school, he has an abundance of expertise that he shares with his team. John worked for and managed portrait and commercial studios and photo processing labs in Michigan, Florida, and New Mexico before starting The Darkroom. His philosophy is unparalleled value- the very best quality photographs at a reasonable price. John is married to Marsha, who often comes with him on sessions to make sure he’s doing a good job, and to make the kids laugh. When they’re not taking pictures, John and Marsha enjoy fishing, and traveling. NICK TOTH, John’s son, is a native of St. Simons Island and has worked with his dad throughout the years. After graduating from Georgia Southern with a degree in Business Management, Nick joined The Darkroom full-time in 2001 and continues to follow in his father’s footsteps, keeping everyone at the Darkroom laughing. Never a dull moment. Nick is married to Tracy, and they have 4 beautiful girls under the age of 5! Susie who leads the pack, Catherine&Caroline the energetic twins, and Sweet Nicole who has no problem keeping up with her big sisters. Nick and Tracy Toth are also active members of St. Simons Community Church. KAREN ESKESEN has been with The Darkroom since 1977. She’s originally from New Jersey, but we don’t hold that against her. Karen made St. Simons her home in 1972. She enjoys taking family portraits, artful nature photographs, and her favorite subjects have always been pets. Karen is an active member of The Humane Society. SARAH SPIVEY joined our team fresh out of college from North Georgia Technical College, where she earned her photography degree. As we like to say, "You can take the girl out of Waycross but you can't take the Waycross out of the girl", her bubbly southern twang, yet professional personality has fit our team perfectly since 2013. She has won the hearts of many brides, already photographing more than 40 weddings locally on both Sea Island and St. Simons. Her goal in every portrait is to create a comfortable environment so that true personality is captured and pure joy is shared. No faking it with Sarah around:) She also enjoys family portraits, children, seniors, and her personal favorite, band promotional photography where her creativity has no limit. Sarah is an active member of Taylor's Chapel where she volunteers in the Special Needs program and Worship Team, and can also be found out and about the island looking for local music. THERESA ROWAN came on board with us in 2014 and brought her passion along with her with many years of experience. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in photography and entrepreneurship from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA in 2006. She’s lived and worked in many different places including Philadelphia, Northern Virginia, Washington DC, New Zealand and Australia. Her dreams of living by the ocean finally led her to our very own Jekyll Island, where she lives with her boyfriend, Spencer and adorable puppy, Maddy. Because she’s photographed over 70 weddings and countless portraits, she has a great way of making her subjects feel comfortable and relaxed. Her creative style allows her to capture the personality of every individual. Outside of work you may find Theresa traveling, practicing yoga, or taking Maddy to the beach. The Darkroom is proud to contribute to many local charities, including CASA, The Davis Love Foundation, YWCA, and The American Cancer Society, The Humane Society, The Rotary Club of St. Simons, and many educational facilities.
