Deer groom (allogroom) each other as a way to build trust, reduce stress, remove ticks, or to reinforce hierarchies within a group. It's a way for them to say "I trust you, I am familiar with you, you're a part of my group."
While I usually observe this mainly with females and fawns, I occasionally will get a chance to watch the bucks allogroom as well! I was watching a group of 5 bucks and 4 females this morning and these two bucks definitely stole the show.

Thank you Ohio Division of Wildlife for publishing me in the latest edition of the Wild Ohio magazine!!! This is such a huge deal to me because I enter their photography contest every year. While I didn't win this year, being published is still absolutely awesome to me. And, this beauty of a buck absolutely deserves to be seen by many!! 🦌
