Well hello Facebook land! It’s been a long, long.... well long time since I’ve shared any new work. Yes, I’m still shooting. Yes, I’m still here. But, I took a nice hiatus from social media for the last year and a half or so. I’ve been back sharing regularly over on instagram, find me at:

And now I’m going to start sharing again here on my FB page. Soon I’ll share the recent blog post I wrote about the ‘why’ of taking the break. Until then, enjoy one of my adventures from last winter!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I'm glad to be sharing some new work today. While not a rare or unique location for photography, this view of Mount Hood is breathtaking. An incoming storm created some nice late afternoon light, however that same incoming storm hid the sun a bit sooner than I'd hoped dashing my hopes of a colorful sunset.

Hello there to my fans and followers!
I know, I know I've been rather quiet here on my page the past few months. I've had several of you ask me - "Are you ok?" "Where'd you go?" Well, there's a very good reason for that: I've been training my new assistant. She's excited to learn, but tends to stick all of the camera equipment in her mouth and still fumbles a bit with all the buttons.
I've had a chance to get out and shoot a few times this year so far and I'm really excited to start sharing several new images that I captured in that time.
I wish you all well and thank you for all of your support, likes, and comments.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Here's a little green for you. Last June when I was in Mount Rainier National Park I spent half a morning the the misty fog photographing the beauty of the False Hellebore (aka Corn Lily) in several of the moist meadow areas. The texture and movement in this plant can create a visually pleasing pattern that's perfect for an intimate style of photography. It's fitting that I just received an order for a hugh 50"x30" canvas of this image.

This is the first in a series of posts I'll be writing over the course of 2016 focused on celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the National Park Service. My passion for photography began with my first visits to a series of the parks and it's been a love affair ever since. I hope you enjoy the rid…

Although very much an iconic location, I always wanted to visit it and see with my own eyes. I wonder if this will become a trend in other parks/wilderness areas due to the influx of visitors, instagramers, etc that are loving places to death? Thoughts?

I spent a day snowshoeing around Crater Lake National Park a few weekends back on what was a perfect bluebird day with little cloud cover. As I made my way back to my car the weather began to change as low rolling clouds began to come up the hillsides and discipate over the lake. The clouds caught the low light of sunset creating an ethereal feel among the frosted trees.

My last two images came from my time spent in December in the desert National Parks of California. My last evening in Joshua Tree was one of the more uncomfortable nights I spent camped in a tent due to extremely high winds brought by an incoming El Nino. That storm system was also doing it's part further north in the Sierra Nevada, dropping several inches of snow in Yosemite National Park. After a long drive to make it into the park with time to spare for scouting locations. While icons like Half Dome and El Capitan played hide and seek most of the afternoon the clearing storm created some incredible atmospheric conditions in in the floor of the valley.

Another stop along my California journey back in December was in the Alabama Hills. Famous for a long list of movies filmed in the area it's a spectacular outdoor adventure destination. The onlooker has a perfect view on what was a chilly December morning. The tall peak just right of center in the image is Mount Whitney, the tallest peak in the continental U.S. and the far eastern border of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. From Whitney Portal you can gain access to the PCT and John Muir Trail (top on my must backpack list). Enjoy your Thursday!

I'm happy to share this image from the very end of last year. I set aside a week in December to focus on winter photography, however heavy snow and rain here in Oregon required me to set my sites elsewhere. I headed south to the desert (and Sierra Nevada) of California. This evening in Joshua Tree National Park ended with a perfect sunset viewed from the rock gardens of white tank granite and the lone juniper acting as a sentinel over the scene.

A quick iPhone snapshot that shows the incredible amount of snow covering the Oregon Cascades so far this winter. I spent a beautiful Sunday snowshoeing Crater Lake National Park . While I didn't capture the sunset I'd envisioned over the lake, I did get some unique light on the 'frosted trees' around the lake. Hoping to share those images soon.

December's heavy snow fall in the Cascades and surrounding areas lent itself to some great photography opportunities, I set out last weekend to explore Tumalo Falls (previous post), but couldn't help but take a side trip when I passed Black Butte. Some of the ponderosa pines in the area stand out in the snow with their signature red tinted bark.
