Denali at Dusk

Denali is a beautiful pinto stallion at Salt Wells Creek out of Figaro's band. I took this photo a at little over a year ago. He practically glowed against of blue tones as day receded into the gloaming. My friend Brenda and I always seem to find him around this time of day.

Monochrome Monday
Guardian

I have seen this incredible stallion everytime I have been to the Red Desert. He has a quiet but strong presence and an old soul. I often find him on an overlook watching over his small band including mares Corazon and Silhouette and young c**t Talisman. As the Red Desert approaches a massive roundup this fall I selfishly hope this little band escapes into the hills. Without them, it will just be a desert and I would feel their ghosts forever.

We are on the countdown to calendars going on sale. This year there is a classic and a stallion calendar. Guardian and his family are in the classic calendar. Message me to reserve your calendar now!

Zani

Several of you asked me about the little filly in the background of yesterdays photo. Zani in Lakota means good health, body and spirit. She was born last September and is also the offspring of Mica anc Prospera and a descendant of famous stallion Cloud. Zani is a blue roan so roany she actually looks like a grey! She has a sweetness to her that you immediately notice snd soft eyes. When we saw her on the mountain last week she was following her little brother all over with great curiosity. I thought she was absolutely lovely.

Grandson the Legendary Stallion Cloud
A Special Edition of Foal Friday!

Perhaps one of the most meaningful moments of our recent trip was discovering the grandson of legendary stallion Cloud (ie The Cloud Foundation). We got up in the middle of the night and started driving up Pryor Mountain so we could arrive at first light and spend the entire day with one of my favorite herds. We saw a group of horses near a large cluster of evergreens and I was delighted to spot Mica, 14 year old son to Cloud. The first time I was ever on Pryor Mountain this was the first band of horses I saw, so they hold a special place in my heart. As we watched the band including mares Hera, Prospera, Half Moon and fillies Wind River and Zani we noticed that Prospera was licking a tiny newborn on the ground. As we watched the c**t over the next few hours it got up, walked under momma and eventually figured out how to nurse. Like older sister Wind River, this lovable c**t is a mini-me of his sire with a lookalike blaze. Yearling sister Zani followed Prospera and her new foal everwhere, curious but not pushy about the new baby. We have submitted name suggestions to the Pryor Mountain Mustang Center but will have to wait to hear what the Cloud Foundation thinks. What a beautiful way to begin a perfect daty atop this austere mountain, where time always seems to stand still for me.

A Little Bit of Everything

This photo has a little bit of everything I like about wild horses: an adorable foal, mares hanging out in blue water, warm summer day and even a little bit of action! Its hard to know where to look first. As summer comes to an end soon I am going to miss carefree days like this but I am not going to miss the heat!

In other news calendars went to mass production last week and go on sale next week! Let me know if you want one and I will send you the link when the sale goes live.

Pretty Little Wildfire

Wildfire is growing up into a beautiful girl, no surprise with the Jack of Hearts as her sire! This beautiful young curly filly has the most beautiful blue eyes and lots of spirit to match! She left her natal band last year and I'm holding my breath to see the little one she and stallion Bachelor will make!

Looking Glass

It is astonishing how you can find the most breathtaking beings in the most remote locations. The Red Desert of Wyming is a vast unfenced wild area with 6 million acres to explore. When I was there last month I was surprised to discover Looking Glass on the first evening! This gorgeous appaloosa stallion leads a small band and travels with several others including Terre Haute, Rincon and Storm. This was a photo from when I first spotted him.

Anyone want to guess who is on the cover of the 2027 Classic Calendar 🥰

The day started with the excitement of finding bachelors unseen since the Stookey fire. Then to finding a band (Paco’s band) unseen since end of May. While trying to spot each member through the trees smoke began rising from the Simpson Mountains.
With cell service a call was made and down we went to see if there were crews on seen or not. After that we headed to search another area and then head back to see if we could spot Paco’s band again…. Only to spot another fire, the Slater fire.
Through the smoke filled skies off we ventured to hopefully find horses and not fires. In that short drive we experienced a lightning show, pounding rain, gusty winds and this odd wavy white mist.
Yearling Yukon’s bright coat gave them away. We tracked them slowly approaching knowing they were no longer keen to human presence. Back to the vehicle we went to move approach positions. The sun was almost gone but appeared just long enough to give us the beautiful double rainbow with the band in the middle. They had run a ditch line to pop out much closer to us than they were previously. Revealing to us their hidden surprise. A bounding little black filly full of energy. With the light waining we knew photos would be great, but sometimes it is simply about capturing a moment that will never repeat itself. I hope to bring you more of this darling filly and her family soon.

Foal Friday
Talisman Resting Near a Cool Stream

We discovered young Talisman in the Red Desert earlier this summer and I was excited to see him again this past week when we visited again. This beautiful fluffy c**t is part of a four horse band including his grey sire Guardian, sorrl pinto momma Corazon and black mare Silhouette. The entire group will be featured in my upcoming 2027 calendar. Like his sire, Talisman is going grey and when I saw him this past week the change is even more obvious. He is a gentle spirit who like to stay close to his momma although he is beginni g to explore the world more. I loved this quiet moment near twilight when he found the perfect spot to rest next to this stream. I sat nearby watching his family graze while Talisman rested and the last rays of light left the sky.
