We loved getting to photograph Texas (this is not our photo) during a wedding last year at Reid Park Zoo. So long you beautiful animal. ♥

We have some very sad news to share. This morning our keepers and vet staff made the very difficult decision to euthanize Texas, a 27-year-old female giraffe. She was quite elderly, living well beyond the median life expectancy for giraffes. Texas had been receiving special care over the past few months to make sure she was comfortable, but recently her behavior let us know that it was time to say goodbye. The keepers who cared for her and loved her are having a really rough day, even though they know it was the right thing to do for Texas. Please keep them in your thoughts.
