I was thrilled to be able to capture and present the fine trichomes at the edge of the leaf! Simple pleasures. :)
I am always happy to learn something new. I had assumed that all hair-like growths are called cilia. According to the all-knowing Wikipedia, leaves are described as ciliate because of how they look to the naked eye, not because of their internal cellular structure. In botany, "ciliate" is a purely descriptive visual term. It comes from the Latin word cilium, meaning "eyelash." When a leaf margin is lined with a fringe of fine, distinct hairs that look exactly like human eyelashes, botanists call that a ciliate margin.
