One of the perks of being a photographer is getting to attend events and meet people who you otherwise would never have had the opportunity to interact with.

At this wedding I got to both enjoy an amazing event with rad people in a gorgeous location and also listen to the phenomenally hilarious Jordan Klepper as the wedding’s officiant (a friend and colleague of the bride and groom).

Decisions decisions - as a photographer there are so many subtle variations that make such a large visual impact, and which one is, for lack of a better word, the best? Which makes for the greatest emotional connection? Feels the most authentic? Is it veil up? Bride playing with the veil? Friends holding the veil? Veil over the photographer? B+W or color? Dark toning or bright? Include them all or limit the selection?

It’s amazing what you can do with photography with a cell phone these days - also amazing is what is what you can do with just a cell phone light. We were shooting later than anticipated for this session, so I came with no lights, but I actually like the results of the cell flashlight when you don’t have a better option.

This isn’t a wedding I photographed—just an iPhone snapshot from a recent trip to Oaxaca. I was completely taken by how stunning and full of life weddings there are. Couples parade through the streets with giant papier-mâché versions of themselves, joined by dancers, musicians, and mezcal shared in tiny cups. It’s a wildly joyful, vibrant celebration that perfectly captures Oaxaca’s spirit.

Oh, and if you’re planning a wedding in Mexico and want photographs that reflect that same magic and energy, I’d love to document it (hopefully with more than just my iPhone)

Between Alex and me, we photographed four full weddings this weekend—all during a mini heatwave and in completely different corners of the greater Bay Area.

It was definitely exhausting and logistically intense, but we couldn’t have asked for better couples or more breathtaking settings. From sun-soaked vineyards in the hills to tucked-away groves of towering redwoods, this region truly is something special for weddings.

This particular photo was taken at in Hollister—thank you for having us at your stunning property!

Wedding season 2024 is officially up and running over here in w**e country and this one was a fantastic way to start the season. Sure there was a storm cell looming off in the distance and there was a bit more wind than we were expecting but the light was 😚 (is that the proper emoji for the chef’s kiss?), and there was even an epic rainbow during family portraits. The couple l, venue and vendor team were also delightful and wonderful. I’ll take it all as a good omen. Thank you to everyone for being magical and looking forward to an amazing season

I feel like this photo requires no caption, so I’ll instead utilize the caption as an opportunity to inform that we’re off to Europe for a few weeks to visit with family. If we’re slow to respond to comm it’s because we’re busy eating papanashi.

Also - traveling to multiple countries with an almost-2-year-old should be loads of fun…but just-in-case it’s less than simple any travel hacks from veteran parent travelers would be greatly appreciated :P
