Monarch butterflies live all the way to Canada. Each winter they migrate to central Mexico to keep warm until spring. They prefer the coastal forests on their long trip.

Here, I visited the Sanctuary for Monarchs in Pacific Grove, Monterey County, California. I got lucky, they arrived November 15, 2018, and I was near here.

Monarchs feed on the flowers, then roost with a cluster of monarchs hanging in high tree branches for protection. When they fold their wings, they look like old leaves.

Sunrise hours most of us would rather be in a warm bed. But it really is a good time to take a hike, or even walk in a park with your coffee, if you can't get dirty before work. Coastal fog in San Diego is better than a sprinkler system. Each night these plants get "watered". Great time for camera safari too! Rising sun is the best natural photo lighting.

A few days after Summer Solstice 2018, the skies finally cleared for a sunset. The sunlight has shifted already over the stripe for Sumer Solstice. This is along the Silver Strand Bikeway riding path, east side of HWY 75, bit north of Leyte Road.
